Vinted or charity?

notnorman · 16/05/2026 13:41

Estate agent coming round next week. I’ve got a big pile of stuff for Vinted. I lack time and enthusiasm for this. I should just take to charity shop shouldn’t I.
Am I being unreasonable and I should put on Vinted?

Try Anglo Doorstop collections. They don't cover every post code but will come and collect, so perfect for things that wouldnt get much on vinted anyway

BleedinglyObvious · 16/05/2026 13:43

What is "a big pile of stuff "?

A bin bag? 10 bin bags? A shipping container?

I actually booked this then forgot to put them outside. They’re very good.

10 bin bags at least!

Depends how much you need the money. I only sell stuff on vinted that's going to go for more than at least £5 and probably £10. So if I were you I would weed out those ones and rest to charity.

BleedinglyObvious · 16/05/2026 13:59

Load the car and take it to your local warehouse-type charity shop.
A small charity shop will probably not be able to accept it all.

My vote is for vinted. I am trying to get rid of everything on vinted and go through the process of it all even if it is effort. I'm hoping that it helps in making me/us want to consume less. Currently being a very valuable lesson.

It isn't about the money if something only sells for a £ and theoretically isn't worth my time then hopefully it will teach me the lesson not to accumulate so much stuff in the first place.

It would be great if more people did this.

Yes mass charity donation might make you feel good but what if they cant shift it either? All ends up in landfill somewhere.

So to me it's either vinted/ebay/maybe give away or if it's no good then bin

It’s all nice stuff that I’ve bought from Vinted that doesn’t fit!

I think it’s my Vinted addiction that’s to blame here!

I have a vast collection of charity shop/ebay/vinted 'bargains'. I'm bagging them up for charity and re-selling. My sanity is at stake. Smile

A lot of it is shoes - nice ones from ebay/CS that don't fit.
Several ebay parcels I've not even opened. Shock

If you only have a week until it needs to be gone, and 10 bin-bags, then I don't think vented will work on your timescale. Is there anywhere local that could use it? I send a lot of DC outgrown stuff to school / nursery for spares, the local sports center take anything sporty for their 'kit hub', woman refuge for adult cloths & a homeless charity that helps people moving into social housing for anything house related. I feel better if it goes somewhere it will be used, then a charity shop trying to sell it.

I'm doing this too, I lost a lot of weight last year and that was what drew me to e bay initially, now I never buy anything without looking on eBay first,it really does make you mindful of consumption, I am selling stuff too,for peanuts mostly, people are really tight,😂but then I am equally frugal when buying so hey ho, I've sold brand new jeans for a fiver, but equally bought a lovely denim jumpsuit for a couple of quid, I actually enjoy rooting through the bargains and the hit of selling something, generally it's not really worth it on monetary level, but it's satisfying knowing you've passed it on to get more use out of it. It depends whether you are prepared to arse about,my post office is very local so easy to post.

AgnesMcDoo · 16/05/2026 16:15

Do you want to make money for yourself accepting the hassle of selling it - vinted

Do you want to support a charity and be hassle free - charity shop?

Do the https://theclothingbank.org.uk operate in your area? If so and it’s all wearable clothing, please donate it there. All gets reused to families currently struggling for what ever reason. No making money, or cashing in the cloth, literally packaged up and sent to people in need.

I’ll have to investigate this. I would prefer that too.

thank you all for helping me sort my head out xxx

Why would you consider it unreasonable to donate items to charity?
How much do you need random fivers for the effort of photographing, waiting, packing up and delivering to 6 different delivery pints at random times over the next few weeks?

Unless you can sell something for an amount that you will notice in your budget, I wouldn't bother.

That’s the decision I have come to. Thank you. My oh thinks I should put it on Vinted but I really CBA. Especially with the other issues I have regarding moving house- in my post from this morning!!

thanks folks x I know it sounds silly but it’s been a massive block!
