AIBU to mention spelling errors on a local pub menu?

A local pub put its new menu out today and the food looks really good. The menu though is littered with spelling mistake after mistake and grammar and punctuation errors. It looks really rubbish considering they've put a lot of effort into doing the place up and this new menu, so it's a shame that it looks rather unprofessional. So I've messaged them and suggested they check it over and correct it.

Is there anyone old enough to remember the 60s, 70s and 80s and was terrible spelling - not necessarily in general, but on menus, shop signs and banners etc - so prevalent then, or shall we blame social media?

Def drop them an email.

I once emailed The Range after a few hand written had us in stitches!
The' Isle Closed 'being one of them.

I wouldn't give it a second thought tbh. Do you also contact producers and TV channels when you spot a slight mistake in a programme?

Davros · Yesterday 20:55

The worst thing is the apostrophe in Gyozas

They're not remotely the same, are they?

I can't decide which bit is worst. Maybe Ice_Cream. How did they manage to get an underscore instead of a space? Confused

InterestedDad37 · Yesterday 21:00

I would. 👍

steff13 · Yesterday 21:00

I probably would.

What is vanilla pod ice cream?

TipsyLaird · Yesterday 21:01

Yanbu. Looks very amateur. Or maybe Ammature.

Roads · Yesterday 21:01

Oh wow that's quite an extensive array of mistakes on such a small menu! I would absolutely point them out.

Ohpleeeease · Yesterday 21:02

It looks really amateurish. They should know how to spell the food they’re sending out. But I wouldn’t correct it, I’d just avoid eating there.

TheChosenTwo · Yesterday 21:02

I just wouldn’t go there 😂

TheGirlattheBack · Yesterday 21:03

Ouch so many errors. It’s like a spot the mistakes quiz - the longer I look the more I see!

heartsinvisiblefury · Yesterday 21:04

It doesn’t look good at all and gives the impression that they’re unprofessional. I’d definitely let them know.

Lins77 · Yesterday 21:05

Reminds me of menus I've seen abroad. Excusable when it's translated into English from the local language. Not great here.

The greengrocer's apostrophe has been around for generations, though.

Overthehillmum63 · Yesterday 21:07

I’m a word nerd myself, I’d have to tell them.

blythet · Yesterday 21:08

I don’t imagine a typical customer or member of the public would care. I’d be more interested in the quality of food, level of service, cleanliness/style of the surroundings.
as long as everyone knows what they mean then who cares?!

Most people won't care, but surely they'd rather get it right than not. Some will notice, and it doesn't create a good impression.

MsRosewater · Yesterday 21:12

I’m not a natural pedant but OMG it hurts my brain! The random capitalisation alone requires some sort of intervention.

It comes across as amateurish and careless- I would say something

OriginalPedant · Yesterday 21:14

Bloody hell. What absolute halfwit wrote that?

I’d definitely email them.

Actually I think a lot of people 'typical customer people' would care.

We all know everyone makes mistakes but the amount of mistakes in this menu makes them look careless and I'd wonder how little effort they put into other aspects of their business.

Shmurtle · Yesterday 21:17

I don't think it's a recent / social media thing. I was a very annoying child in the 90s and used to point out spelling and grammar mistakes to shopkeepers and cafe managers.

Shocke · Yesterday 21:20

The menu choices are awful anyway. After seeing the mistakes I wouldn’t even bother

springy0c · Yesterday 21:22

They probably have used AI to create and haven’t checked it. Seeing more and more like this.
