To wear black at a wedding?

I am singing in a wedding. I am not sure what to wear. I think black would be smart and also not distract from whatever the bridesmaid colours are - I’ve never been to a wedding in England- so I don’t know if this is a no no. In the US where I am from this would be ok.

I think it would be ok in the circumstances but I would want bright accessories and a coloured jacket

I’ve worn black to a wedding before- a beautiful Bardot style dress.

however some people say you shouldn’t wear black to a wedding but men wear black suits, so for me it’s no difference.

I think black would be appropriate for a singer, and I agree with pp black is fine for women to wear as guests.

As a singer, absolutely fine. Go with navy if youre still not sure.

As a guest, probably also fine. Im not sure people are really that bothered these days.

Are you doing this professionally? I sing with a wedding choir from time to time. We always wear black. But if you’re also guest or singing solo you could choose something more colourful. Either would be fine.

I don’t like black at weddings but it’s probably because my DM wore a black suit she’d previously worn to work and to a great aunt’s funeral for my wedding!

It’s fine. You’re performing, rather than attending as a guest - but even as a guest most people don’t mind if you wear black these days. I’ve worn black to several weddings.

Thank you all - this is reassuring! I know what to wear now.
