Facebook parenting advice

I’m noticing loads of people doing this lately. Very long, sanctimonious paragraphs about parenting styles usually starting with:

I just don’t understand why other parents let their kids have iPads…
I just don’t understand why other parents don’t rear face…
I just don’t understand why other parents don’t breast feed…

Usually followed by a long post about all the scientific evidence based around why their choices are so superior. I even saw someone write a long post about why they don’t tell their kids Santa won’t bring them gifts if they aren’t good (emotionally traumatising apparently).

People can parent how they like but why do so many people feel the need to broadcast their choices and give the impression that they are educating others on how to do it properly? Obviously those who agree jump in the comments immediately saying things like ‘I couldn’t agree more hun but I’m yet to meet another parent who shares these values’. Honestly I’ve seen two today and I just think fuck off would you.

Are you sure you don’t mean Mumsnet?

It’s the same the whole internet over 🤷‍♀️

People like to discuss on MN and certainly do give their opinions in response to threads. But it just seems so odd to me to write an unsolicited rant on your own Facebook about a particular parenting choice. I mean who actually cares? It’s clearly a humble brag or way to make themselves look like great parents but it makes me cringe. I would absolutely delete FB if it wasn’t for the local groups I’m part of.

I think probably 90% of what's posted on social media is a load of shite.

But you can't really post unsolicited when you're doing so on your own social media page.
