Would you go on holiday with your adult daughter?

I’m in my 20’s, mum is in her 60’s.

I’ve asked her if she wants to go on a girls trip at the end of the year. 4 nights in a city in Europe (we’ve not chosen yet).

Would you do this? I don’t know if It seems a little odd to do or if it’s totally normal.

I think it’s great. I’m sure I must have gone away a bit with my mum in my 20s. Less on holidays per se, but more stints away visiting people and staying in hotels for a few days. My dd is a teen still, but I hope she’d still like to do stuff with me occasionally as an adult.

Thatsillymama · 13/05/2026 17:11

Definitely do this. I really wish I had done this more with my mum before she passed away. I go away with my dad once or twice a year and it's lovely.

I would have loathed a holiday with my mother with every fibre of my being, so I never did it.
I guess it's fine, if you get on well, but it would worry me a bit that a 20-something would want to go away with an oldie of my age.... there must be more fun or interesting things that a young person could do?

I’m going away in the week I’ve suggested to her anyway, whether she comes or not. I just realised that a double person booking would be cheaper and get a nicer hotel. So I asked my mates who can’t because of work commitments and I figured I may as well ask her!

Every year, my two daughters and I go away for the weekend.

MyMilchick · 13/05/2026 17:12

I have done, my and my daughter are very close. I'm sure your mom will love it!

gingercat02 · 13/05/2026 17:12

I go away with my mum, I'm 50s, she's 80s. Why not if you get on

notacooldad · 13/05/2026 17:14

I used to go away with mu mum a lot when I was in my 20s . We went to Malta Tunisia Spain and Portugal.
Why would you think it's weird?

Ds1 often comes away with me when he is single. We've been skiing in Camonix and mountain biking in Poland and hiking in Germany.

My male friend has just been to Iceland with his mum.about a month ago.

I think its odd that you are questioning it tbh.

C152 · 13/05/2026 17:14

I did it with my mother, but you have to be clear with each other about what you both want/expect/need. For example, if she wants to stay in a hotel and you want to stay in a hostel, one of you is going to be unhappy if it's not agreed in advance. Similarly, be clear that it's ok if you both want some time on a particular day to do your own thing and meet in the evening, or the following day etc.

I wouldn't look down on an adult travelling with their parent. I'd be thinking it's wonderful they have a chance to travel and spend time together.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 13/05/2026 17:14

She is my most fav travelling companion! We have so many adventures and have 3 planned in the next 18 months :)

ToadRage · 13/05/2026 17:16

I would love to do this with my Mum if i thought i could manage four days in her company. If you get on with your mother, definitely do it.

cupfinalchaos · 13/05/2026 17:16

So lovely. Our adult kids come skiing with us but that’s only if their partners do too. My dd and I are very different people but I’d love to spend a couple of days with her. She’s a busy girl though!

Lampzade · 13/05/2026 17:16

I go abroad every year with my mother .,
I think it is lovely

Justbecauseyoucandoesntmeanyoushould · 13/05/2026 17:16

Yes, please! I've been on holiday with adult DD. It was lovely.

CollectingAllTheACEs · 13/05/2026 17:17

Last year I did six trips abroad... four were with my mum 😂

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/05/2026 17:17

I wouldnt with my mother as our relationship isnt brilliant, but I have been away with one of my adult daughters and would happily do it again with any of the "kids"!

TheChiffchaff · 13/05/2026 17:19

Sounds lovely. I don't have a DD but would happily go with DS2 as we like the same things. Not so much DS1 as we have different interests and I couldn't keep up with him.
DS2 has been away with DH and I occaisionally for a fly and flop holiday.

MrsEmmelinePankhurst · 13/05/2026 17:20

Do it!

I've just posted on another thread about how much I miss my parents who both died far too soon. One of my most treasured memories is of the trip to Rome that my mum and I did, just the two of us, when I was about 25 and she would have been 55.

My DD is 20 now and I'd love it if she wanted to go on a trip away with me. I might phone her after work and ask her!

It is fine to spend time with your kids whatever age, a weekend away can be fun, i appreciate you didn't do anything with your mum because of a tricky relationship I do with mine and we would never spend time away with me,

My dds have husbands and partners and full lives but they like to spend a few days with this oldie.

tillytoodles1 · 13/05/2026 17:22

We're both older than you two but we go away together all the time as a family.

Valeriekat · 13/05/2026 17:22

My sister and my niece have the most marvellous and adventurous holidays together!

AncientBallerina · 13/05/2026 17:22

I wouldn’t give this a second thought either as a mum or a daughter - in fact all three generations including my sister have gone away together! You won’t have your mum forever and you obviously have a lovely relationship if you want to go away together so go ahead. Anyone who would look down on you for this you don’t need in your life. Bon voyage!

Mydogisagentleman · 13/05/2026 17:23

Yes. And I have several times.
5 days in new York was our most recent.
Wouldn't recommend it in July. The weather was stifl8ng

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 13/05/2026 17:23

I’ve just come back from a holiday with my mum and I’m 47 😁

sunnydisaster · 13/05/2026 17:24

I’m the mum of DCs in their 20s and would def do a city break with either DC.

Lincslady53 · 13/05/2026 17:28

We have had a couple of holidays in the last few years with our single adult daughter. Great fun, but we drink and eat a lot more than if we are on our own, and it takes longer to get our weight back to pre holiday weight. Go and do it.
