Talk to me about robot mops…

Are they worth it! Dog owner who feels like she’s constantly mopping floors of a fairly light but annoying level of dirt! Has anyone got a robomop? Do they work? Any recommendations? Any advice and wisdom much appreciated! AIBU to consider contracting out my mopping to a robot buddy.

My main concern would be it becoming self aware and killing me in my sleep. Not worth the risk.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/05/2026 14:00

I have a eufy one. It’s a bit underwhelming. I think mine is particularly rubbish though. It’s just like wiping with a cold slightly damp cloth. I would like a better one as it does help. My issue is mainly with the way mine moves rather than the mopping bit.

TeaAndTrumpet · 12/05/2026 14:05

My SIL had one and didn’t recommend, so we never got one. It was a while ago and she mainly said that as you still had the hassle of cleaning up the mop/making sure water was topped up, she wasn’t finding it that helpful.

We all have Eufy hoovers and like those, so it’s not like we’re against them in general.

Yes, we recently bought a cheapish robot vacuum/mop machine (just looked at the Amazon reviews and chose a Monsga for around £200). It's great at vacuuming (it self empties the dust too) and mopping, though the mop tank filling/emptying is a bit fiddly, it's worth it to be able to set it up and walk away. If there are still marks, I just change the mop-pad and set it to go again. It doesn't get into corners or narrow areas, due to being round and dinner plate sized, so occasional mopping is still needed.

You can get one that auto-fills and empties the water tank, but I didn't want to pay £700+.

I figured that at £200, if it lasts 6 months, it's way cheaper than a weekly cleaner and it saves me hours each week vacuuming and washing floors. The app is simple to use too, which is a bonus.

ETA: I have several mop pads and just chuck them into a hot wash with other cleaning cloths, so that bit is easy.

I loved my Eufy robovac and upgraded to one that can mop too, with high hopes. It's even better as a vaccuum (self emptying!), but not great as a mop. Unless I'm doing something wrong, it just seems to move dirty water around.

Proseccoismyfriend · 12/05/2026 14:23

I took the plunge and got a roomba, it doesn’t mop as didn’t want that function but I absolutely love her. She whizzes round saving me so much time, I went for the 705, have a dog and two cats and the hair is now minimal

Mine is about as effective as a toddler walking about with wet toilet paper stuck to its shoe.

It’s a eufy combo vacuum and mop, and refuses to die so I can justify a replacement.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 12/05/2026 14:41

I already have Eufy. But I think based on this I’ll give the mop a miss.

Following as I want one too! Sounds like the Monsga is quite good then @Plot30B - do you know what model that is please?

BertieBotts · 12/05/2026 14:51

TBH they are never going to be much good because think about it - they can only get slightly damp otherwise they would leave puddles everywhere. They can't cart a tank of water about so they can only clean/rinse the pads off at the charging station, therefore even if the water was warm originally it's cold within about 30 seconds of it leaving the base. It would be really inefficient if it was going back and forth constantly so it just keeps the same "water load" for much longer than I'd personally wipe the floor with before rinsing out the mop/cloth. And it can't properly rinse out the cloth in the way I would do, by fully soaking and then wringing out. It seems to sort of squirt clean water at it and then spin the cloths to try and get some of the dirt off.

End result is that it's basically wiping with not very much pressure and a cold damp dirty cloth. Plus it's always complaining the pipes get clogged with dirt and the official cleaning stuff is insanely overpriced. We just use normal floor cleaner diluted which has some kind of antibacterial ingredient (not sure if bleach or whatever) which does prevent the waste water trying to grow a new species of algae which used to absolutely stink the entire house out when emptied. It's OK. I suspect it prevents me needing to mop as often as I would do without it. But it's not really cleaning the floor and I don't really see the point of it.

We don't have an especially dirty floor - 2 youngish DC but we take shoes off at home - and it barely copes with our needs so I am sceptical they would do much for a home where there is actual dirt that needs mopping regularly. Perhaps if you mopped REALLY well before the first time and then ran it 2-3 times a day it would keep up?

In general, the thing I don't like about the robot vacuum is that it runs for so long. It's not as loud as a proper vacuum but it is a constant droning noise that goes on for ages which I find much more irritating/disruptive than a few minutes of loud vacuum noise.

BertieBotts · 12/05/2026 14:56

We have a Dreame which was less than half price because it was a customer return.

I would be cautious of random amazon brands personally because I'm scared of thermal runaway and I don't trust that the random unknown brands have proper protection against this. If you do have one then please make sure you have good smoke alarms and you're not charging it in a place which would block an escape route.

Do you live in a bungalow? They can’t do stairs

I love mine, Eufy C20 Omni. But I don’t have pets

I've found the same. It's better than no mopping I guess, but barely.

PartyQuestion30th · 12/05/2026 19:35

I had a roomba, which was great, so got the roomba mop. I’m not sure if we are too messy. But it didn’t seem to do much.

spicysalad · 12/05/2026 20:42

It’s better than no mopping, saves having to do it yourself every day, but still needs a human mop weekly

Camenbertsmuggler · 13/05/2026 06:47

I have a shark never touch its ace, hoovers and empties its bin. Then goes and fills up its water tank and uses hot water to clean the floor. It empties its own dirty water and cleans and dries the mop pad. When I empty the dirty water tank every few weeks it’s pretty grim with 3 cats and two kids so it’s definitely doing something. It was expensive but it does all my floor cleaning for me no complaints. We called it Mr London and she sounds like a war time matron “going back to the base” kids love it

BIossomtoes · 13/05/2026 06:51

Our Shark is called Doris and I love her to bits. She vacuums and mops daily. I mop about once a month for a deep clean.

I have a Eufy Omni and I love it. Great hoovering and mopping. We got it for the dog too and it keeps on top of most of the dog hair and paw prints. It has different settings and it needs more than the most basic to do a good mop and to have the proprietary cleaning liquid but once we cracked that I am happy with the results. It’s better if I CBA to pick up the chairs etc otherwise it misses quite a lot giving them a wide berth. The floor is posh vinyl (Karndean) if that makes a difference

I was just coming to say that!

We got a shark one. It's temperamental, misses chunks for seemingly no reason, and barely gets up any stains.

Quite disappointed in it and now it just gets hoovered and mopped as we go past with our normal hoover and mop. Poor thing.
