Staying out towards the Vatican, three full days in Rome. I love art and just wondering around.

Just wander freely to see Parthenon and trevi fountain and various churches. Defo book a guide for the Vatican as it’ll save you a two hour queue and you’ll get so much more out of the Vatican with a guide (even a group guide it’s the best money we spent)
make sure to have an evening wander / dinner in travestere, it’s amazing and very roman! You’ll have a great time. If you want some down time, villa borghasie is a beautiful walk. Take comfy walking shoes!

Accept that in 3 days you will barely do a tenth of what is worth doing and you will be utterly exhausted trying to pack in more than is actually possible.
Day 1 - Colisseum and adjacent Forum area
Day 2 - walking tour of various minor highlights that don't need a whole day each including the Trevi fountain, the Patheon, the Torre Argentina, the Spanish Steps
Day 3 - Vatican & Basilica

I should’ve said - I went to the Vatican last year so I’m happy to skip that and just do at peter’s basilica

Trastevere definitely to eat - wander around in the evening there and go down all the lovely little streets. I recommend booking a food tour for one night - I really enjoyed doing that. The tour took us all around the old Jewish ghetto areas and we tried all kinds of food, it was great. Really good way to see different things.

YABU. Ask in one of the travel or holiday topics.

I’m so excited for the food!

You must go to the Church of Saint Louis of the French to see the Caravaggios. It’s completely amazing.

i personally found the Coliseum way too crowded (we shuffled around in a huge wave of people) but the Forum was brilliant.

I could sit and stare at the Pantheon for a very long time. Same for the Piazza Navona, have a drink / meal looking at the fountains

Recklessismymiddlename · 12/05/2026 07:11

Loved the Castel Sant Angelo last time we went. Definitely Trastevere for the food.

Should’ve said I did the colosseum too! That and the Vatican was all I really had time to do, it was a flying visit. I definitely want to do the pantheon and forum

There is a travel board on here you know?
So YABU

CoverLikelyZebra · 12/05/2026 07:47

Changed my vote to YABU. You have been before, you have done the big things. How ridiculous to ask on here without mentioning what you've already done, you are perfectly capable of thinking for yourself what you regretted missing last time and what you enjoyed enough to do again.

Christ no need to be so rude! The trip was a while ago and to be honest it’s not something I think of as I’m rushing to get ready for work.

People do tend to ask for advice when going away. I chose AIBU as it’s the most popular board on here - so you get more traffic and answers.

Well I think you have been very rude, because each person who spent time kindly composing a reply to your OP which they would reasonably assume was from a Rome newbie, wasted their time. You'd rather other people offer you kindly meant help you don't need than bother to type "I've been before and done the main attractions, but just wondering" before you ask your question.

likelysuspect · 12/05/2026 08:29

Well OP you'll already know you need to build in lots of time for queuing for the toilets, anywhere.

We stayed in Trastevere. I got a guide book out the library and we followed the Bernini walking tour and made upnour own Da Vinci Code walking tour. Also the colesum and the Vatican. Rome is beautiful, have a lovely holiday

Torchout · 12/05/2026 09:10

Get a decent guidebook and decide what you want to see. We went for the Roman sights. We also wandered around generally some days. Loved travastere but the best restaurants dont take bookings and the queues can get seriously long, and this was in Feb.

Denim4ever · 12/05/2026 09:15

Best bits in no particular order:

St Peter's standing behind the saints at the top.
St Paul's outside the walls.
Collesium
Catacoombes

maftan · 12/05/2026 09:16

One for your list if you haven't already seen it, is the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, you'll find it on google maps. It is not far from Trevi. Magnificent art ceiling that you look at via a strategically placed mirror in the nave. Wowzers! Bring your own mirror (as I did ahem) in case the queue is very long to approach the fixed mirror. Your own is not going to be the best substitute but will do if you need not to linger too long. If you can face looking upwards you don't need one but I have vertigo so had to be mindful of staring up!

Ugh, yes. Looking at a central hotel so I can pop back as and when

Edited

I didn’t think to. Maybe get off AIBU if you think that’s rude
