Link to spreadsheet of Labour MPS calling for resignation - https://x.com/GuidoFawkes/status/2053925699824574889

Streeting has to make his move now, Starmer will never be this weak and he has the chance to go now.

Burnham might be more likely to win, but he is not in, and where exactly is a safe seat by election they could parachute him in for? (nowhere)

So - Streeting will never have a better chance of being PM, he pulls the trigger NOW or he never pulls it at all.

I did say on Thursday that I thought it would be Friday or Monday.... Tuesday is a pretty good guess.

This is a quiet Bat People moment... That Speech... not worth remembering...

@TemperanceWest “Bye Wes, I hope Starmer sacks you”.

I believe that was the threat.

The op has a point on the cabinet. No one has to go up against a pre Cabinet statement, they can make a move outside it.

What do you mean by a pre-Cabinet statement?

FinchiePink · 12/05/2026 11:43

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 11/05/2026 22:57

he is going to be thrown under the bus at tomorrow mornings cabinet meeting. we all know it

Well OP we are (nearly) halfway through tomorrow and so far none of your predictions have come true.

So is today the wrong 'tomorrow', is he going tomorrow-tomorrow or at an as-yet-unspecified future 'tomorrow', or are you just going to keep repeating "tomorrow" until 2029?

Wherever you got that crystal ball from clearly owes you a refund though, I'd focus on getting your money back.

No doubt in my mind Farage is PM in later 26, or early 27 - 100% sure of it

Off to Portugal

ByGraptharsHammer · 12/05/2026 11:50

There will be a reshuffle later, and Wes Streeting probably on a downward trajectory. Keir strikes me as someone who bears grudges

the80sweregreat · 12/05/2026 11:57

Maybe if he fires Streeting ( or a ‘
reshuffling’ exercise ‘ ) it’ll make him trigger a leadership challenge ? Although I’m not sure if that can happen , but it might start something off again. It’s clear that this particular drama isn’t really resolved at all. They are in the kind of pickle the Conservatives were for a few years and people are not happy.

Ah okay.

So are you saying that MPs can make a move against KS at any point after today’s Cabinet meeting, rather than needing to move against it immediately after his pre-Cabinet meeting statement? I agree with that. Sorry if I’ve misunderstood you.

My point though is that, to get rid of the party leader, Labour Party process is that at least 81 Labour MPs must back the same candidate, and this hasn’t happened.@SingleSexSpacesInSchools doesn't seem know this rule. Until that happens, KS can’t be removed by the party.

KS may choose to leave of his own accord, but I don’t think that will happen.

MNLurker1345 · 12/05/2026 12:01

But @the80sweregreat, it doesn’t look like Streeting can get the 20%.

I personally don’t think he his PM material.

The only next thing to look out for is, will he reshuffle or not?

Yes it needs a challenge and 81 MPs which are yet to happen. I‘m not surprised at the cabinet meeting as KS is digging in and the meeting would just be chaired by him as per agenda.

A challenge can be anytime. I think Burnham is potentially more the push as even though he’s not in place he has allies that would work against WS.

ByGraptharsHammer · 12/05/2026 12:03

No. If Streeting had less than 80 MPs support then really it’s likely that Keir can either downgrade him or keep him Health. Health is a very difficult job that few others want.

Streeting did not make an effective case. He would need far greater numbers to displace the Labour Party’s love of procedural elections. They differ from Tories who really couldn’t care less about these things and have a ultra flexible system to off their leaders.

MissBowen · 12/05/2026 12:04

He is shameless, stupid and undignified. He will hang on until someone applies their boot to his arse and literally kicks him out.

What a fool, with his shirt sleeves pulled up and his "Son of a Toolmaker" rhetoric!

I doubt anyone bothered to make a case in that meeting.

But they’ll have to think about what to do next.

"Starmer refused to let Cabinet raise leadership challenge, says official
Keir Starmer shut down any talk of the leadership race in Cabinet, refusing to allow ministers to raise the issue — and then declined to hold one‑to‑one follow‑ups afterwards, according to a government official.
While Pat McFadden insisted no one challenged the PM in the room, a government official, sceptical of Starmer, told POLITICO: “Keir said in Cabinet that he won’t discuss the elections or his leadership, and that he will only speak to cabinet ministers about that individually. Then after the meeting he declined to see cabinet ministers individually.”"

Yes, but this cascade of letters publicly was a bad move. Labour top brass will not have liked that. They want to regulate leadership elections. 81 MPs saying they want another leader is one thing. What did not happen is the competing cohorts got into the party system to trigger the election process. Keir will stick to that. It protects him. It also near guarantees there will be a long, noisy and multi candidate race which is its own disaster for Labour should it happen. They call it MAD. It is

‘He’s digging in’, apparently. According to Downing Street leaks to journos. The man is shameless.

Regardless of whether you like him or not, voted for him or not, or think he’s doing a good job or not, can you explain to me what’s ’shameless’ about someone on a fixed term contract who sticks at their job, following loads of criticism, less than two years in, and tries to turn things around?

I think the behaviour of eg David Cameron after Brexit was far more shameful. You don’t put yourself up as PM because you want an easy ride.

If people want to follow protocols to get rid of him, let them, but personally I think someone who won’t be bullied out of office is showing grit.

Do you currently work? If not, I highly recommend you look for a job in politics - perhaps as a lobbyist or a shill.

The shameless part is not admitting you are doing more damage than good and leaving on good terms instead of being chucked out kicking and screaming

How is it nasty? I’m just pointing out you have a lot of time on your hands, so you’re probably not in work. My guess is you may be retired or unemployed. And you clearly enjoy discussing politics, so a job in politics would be right up your alley.
