Do letting agents actually get sacked for serious misconduct?

Just wondering about accountability in the lettings industry.

When a letting agent behaves very badly - for example giving incorrect legal advice, mishandling notices, misleading tenants, harassment or other serious breaches, do they actually face consequences in practice?

Do agents get disciplined, dismissed or struck off in these cases or do complaints tend to disappear into internal processes and ombudsman schemes without much impact on the individuals involved?

It just seems there’s a real lack of consequences here.

In my experience, no. Years ago, I remember a notice got served incorrectly and they didn’t get sacked or reprimanded. Mistakes happen. Not ideal for the landlords though.

There is no accountability.

there could be but unlike Ireland the Government had decided not

Letting agents
Builders
Freeholders

All need regulating

ARLA (Association of Residential Letting Agents) is the largest regulatory body but even they are quite weak on complaints procedures.

Anyone can become an estate agent with bugger all training and that fact is reflected in the very variable service you get.
