Bloody well done Wales

Just a quick note to say - on the area of the website that I use the most - how proud I am of Wales today. Yes there will still be plenty of turquoise people in Senedd, but the margins of where they won are so tight (largest being Wrecsam 7.7%) and I am so very genuinely impressed that Wales didn't overwhelmingly vote for hatred, bigotry and populist nonsense. It would have been easy to - so much poverty, disenfranchisement from Labour, so much hopelessness. Also the highest ever turnout for voting. My dad sent me a text message this morning predicting that it was all going to shit... he had less faith than me. It's a massive deal for Wales - I've always voted PC - not because I believe in separatism but because I believe people in Wales are best placed to make decisions in Wales. It's not rocket science. But I am so proud of everyone (apart from five constituencies - joke... I have to work in Wrecsam!) for doing enough to elect a party that has always cared for Wales and didn't just pop up five minutes ago.

More money being wasted on promoting the Welsh language when our schools and hospitals are falling apart? Absolute dreamers that will cost the next generation dearly.

MushMonster · 08/05/2026 21:40

Oh dear! First comment already about the Welsh language in a negative light! LOL Everybody should be proud of their language! It is a huge part of your identity.

Well done to Plaid Cymru!

I was hoping for less Reform seats.
Dan Thomas has said that he would reduce taxes, by saving money from the wages of the Welsh Civil Service, so making Welsh citizens redundant? There is enough unemployment as it is. What we need is more jobs, not effing less! Also, he would get rid of quangos, like ..... Natural Resources Wales!
That is in the 10 min I have listened to him. I gave up, because which is the point? I am not going to agree or even be able to stomach much of it.
Youtube was failing to play anything that involved long speeches on their memorandum....
I like the Plaid Cymru leader, he answered all questions in the interviews, memorandum was easy to access and follow, lots of fresh ideas that will bring jobs and save money.

I do feel disappointed though.... glad that PC replaced Labour. We need new energy. But really sad and hurt that Reform got so many votes. I cannot find anything appealing in Reform. And they just keep talking about immigration, all immigration, including the removal of indefinitive right to remain for those that already got it. And nothing else, really. Now they have 34 seats! 34.....

Blaming a party who are not in control of any of that? Are you really that daft? So Plaid are responsible for everything you have said despite not being in control? Are you just talking nonsense for no reason?

Do please explain why maintaining the oldest language in Europe is a bad thing.

Good for Wales!

But I do find it a little funny, as reform voters would love your point about the Welsh governing the Welsh. It matches their nationalistic ideals well.

Chersfrozenface · 09/05/2026 03:22

I wouldn't get too complacent if I were Plaid.

18 months ago it was "anyone but the Tories". This time it was "anyone but Labour". Next Senedd elections it will be "anyone but Plaid". Because their ability to do anything meaningful about the things that concern people - jobs, the cost of living, the health service, housing, transport - is very limited.

And I voted for the party for decades. Not since they went all in on genderism, though.

If they wanted the Welsh to govern Wales then why did they even stand? They didn’t have a Welsh branch until campaigning started in earnest. They are failed English nationalists hoping for a foothold in country they thought would just roll over and accept their rhetoric!

I don’t think anyone is being complacent. But at least they want to try when everyone else fell asleep.

I feel exactly the way you do! You articulated so many things I am thinking much better than I did. When I’m emotional I am less good at expression! Hopefully Rhun will be the first minister by the end of today. And it’s going to be a very hard job - but I think he’s up to the task (would not have said the same about Adam Price).

I am so proud of the Welsh and the Scottish for putting their faith in progressive and inclusive politics. I always knew you were a cut above the English, who once again decided to hand the floor to bigotry and hate.

I will be looking into my ancestory to see if I have any Welsh, Scottish or Irish descendants because I am quite frankly sick of being English.
