I live in a new build house on a new build estate.

I was lying down on my sofa when I was woken up by one of the neighbours shouting after her dog who was in my bedding area which is right by my window.
I currently have a kidney infection and was just getting a nap whilst the kids were napping
I was so annoyed.

Whoever designed these properties seriously messed up and the houses and the allocated parking is all over the place.

For example my two parking spaces is outside my neighbours window, there is a bedding area outside her window which she accesses via my driveway.
So when I open my front door I will at times in the summer see her watering her plants, wedding etc.
Not very private.

This is a repeat occurrence by the way.

I just feel as if I have no privacy and can't relax.

People loitering outside my windows.

Yesterday I had 2 kids playing on their bikes hovering and when I asked them to move they did move but then came back.

I have planters on my bedding area and big pyracanthas but there is a small gap.

I don't know if I am over reacting but I literally have spent 100s on these trellis planters and the next step will be having to get blinds ( currently have a voile and net curtains) but I was quoted £400 for one window.

The HA are not very helpful.

I am not really sure if this is classed as low level anti social behaviour?

Did you know this when you bought the place? If yes: YABU. If no: How could you not realise this. YAstillBU

BeGoldLemur · 07/05/2026 20:04

I’d hate that too. Ask for a house swap?

NotAnotherScarf · 07/05/2026 20:04

Did you not look at the house before buying, or at least a map if buying off plan?

Ca2026 · 07/05/2026 20:06

I’m guessing as she mentions HA, it’s housing association and not a bought property.

youalright · 07/05/2026 20:07

Get a 2nd quote for blinds that price is insane for 1 window

Whaleandsnail6 · 07/05/2026 20:07

Are they actually on your property or is there a right of way?

If its not exclusively your property, they aren't really doing anything wrong so I don't see why it would be antisocial behaviour?

If it is your property, put a little fence round to make it clear

fedupmammm · 07/05/2026 20:07

I rent from a HA.

It really is my fault for not paying attention but as these were new builds I had to view it on the day I would get the keys if I was happy to proceed and it was very rushed.

I was just so happy to finally get a house.

And no, caring for your plants, children playing and parking your car on your drive are not anti social behaviours.

fedupmammm · 07/05/2026 20:08

Yes they are on my property, they stand in my bedding area which is right next to living room window.

I am not sure if it's worth raising this with the HA again as it's really making me anxious and unable
to relax.

If thats the case, why not put a little fence round? Fill in the gaps that people are gaining access through.

Or plant spikey bushes round the edge of your bedding area

My neighbour has blinds and I have mentioned to her before how uncomfortable we feel and she said "Look behind you, I have super thick blinds and don't feel bad it's your parking space".

On her side her parking spaces are right outside her other neighbours front door, the set up is crazy.

I probably think I will have to get super thick blinds like her but I think £400 is a lot.

Would window mirror film be any use to you? It's a heck of a lot cheaper than those blinds. You can see out, but others can't see in, but you need to close the curtains if it's night time as others can see in if the light is on.

Buscobel · 07/05/2026 20:34

Buy some day and night blinds.

Ca2026 · 07/05/2026 20:45

I think you need to get more quotes for blinds. You could also buy your own and get a handy man to put it up but for reference we’ve just had a whole new build 3 bed detached house (with lots of windows including bathrooms, en-suite, utility & French doors) with various blinds including some perfect fit and Venetian and the total was around £1650.

fedupmammm · 07/05/2026 20:48

Yes I think blinds would be the solution.

I have a handy man coming next week to do so some jobs so I can probably just get him to measure them and install them at a later date.

Can't you measure up for blinds yourself? I was quoted really high prices for blinds. I ended up measuring for myself and buying some plastic wood look blinds from ebay. The people I ordered them from had the option for them to cut them to the exact size I required as my windows are an awkward size. I also have window film up that let's the light in but people can't see in. I was quoted £250 but it ended up costing £45 for the blinds and £15 for the film. I only had to drill 6 holes which took minutes and then screw in 6 screws. They look great and it's really private.

fedupmammm · 07/05/2026 21:02

@Winkboo- Yes she is nice, she agrees that the whole layout is so strange. She feels how I feel about parking outside her other neighbours front door.

@Crudd99- I'm not really sure how I would measure the blinds.

I have looked on Dunelm as they have a video to help you measure but I just don't get it 🫣.

If it's HA then do a house swap if it's driving you nuts.

Pinkywoo · 07/05/2026 21:37

You keep saying bedding area, do you mean flower bed or is it something different?

fedupmammm · 07/05/2026 21:44

Yes flower beds.

lazyarse123 · 07/05/2026 21:47

If the neighbours are all nice could you agree to just swap parking spaces?
I can't really visualise how it works.
