DS is constantly coming home with poo in his pants (not lots just a bit more than what you could say was just a mark).

Is this normal? I have no other dc and no others in the family to compare. Feel awkward asking friends!

I do try and show Ds how to wipe at home but he doesn’t really do it properly and I have to help. Also worried about what’s getting on his hands at school as he doesn’t wash thoroughly either!

Basically never. We taught my four year old that he takes two pieces, holds it in the middle so it covers the ends of his fingers like a little cap, wipes once, checks the tissue and throws it in the toilet. If there was poo on it he does it again (no trying to fold the original tissue or anything like that). Takes a lot of tissue sometimes but seems to work!

That's not atypical for the age. Just keep teaching how to wipe and check when at home.

My kid was potty trained very early but wasnt until 6 almost 7 that he started wiping well. I’d say at 4 is very normal

A friend of DS1 was certainly doing the same and worse in reception- I remember the nurse coming to get her as we were waiting outside and she told me on the way home that it wasn’t the first time he had soiled himself, and when he made the toilet he didn’t wipe well. My DSs didn’t have that problem simply because they saved poos for home. Both were very regular creatures! And I was still helping them wipe at 4.

My 6 year old only just starting to wipe well to be honest! But I have taught him from very early to wash his hands well so skid marks were just par for the course for a while and I would help at home

That sounds like overflow incontinence due to constipation. You should take him to the GP
