AIBU to worry after a GP referral for cervical polyp and bleeding?

I posted earlier in the week about being anxious after a post coital bleed.
I went to the GP today who had a look and said he can see a polyp and a clot of blood and has referred me under the two week rule. I’m now terrified. Anyone had this and it turned out ok? 😢
im so worried

I know it’s scary, but try not to panic. I’ve been referred a few times for things like this - lots of benign causes

I had that years ago. It was so terrifing. But basically, they just did a hysteroctomy and cleaned it all out. top tip - the NHS apparently often tries to do hysteroctomy's under local anaessthetic. DO NOT AGREE TO THAT. General all the way.

Also, if, like me, you bleed for 4 weeks after, call your doctor sooner than I did!

Do you mean hysteroscopy? Mine was painless. Not everyone needs knocking out, far from it. I'd be terrified of a GA personally, having witnessed many as a student.

Im kind of concerned I've to wait until November to see a gynaecology. Diagnosed polyp via ultrasound

I do have health anxiety which is not helping 😢

Hi OP, I've had exactly the same thing recently. Please try not to spiral (easier said than done I know 😊) as the polyp is almost certainly why you had bleeding. Any post-coital bleeding they refer on the 2-week even if the cause may be pretty obvious like a polyp. I had mine removed as part of a colposcopy (as I also had a dodgy smear result at the same time...🙄) and didn’t feel a thing. The polyp they removed had come from inside the womb so they then booked me for a hysteroscopy which I had under general where they removed a very large polyp!
I had all this done within weeks and can't praise the NHS enough!

I was worried about all the very hurried appointments and asked the surgeon on the day of my hysteroscopy whether I needed to be concerned and it was him that said it was totally standard to post- costal bleeds (also I'm 50 so periods pretty much gone which was also a 2 week factor).

I hope this is in some way reassuring and that you're seen soon with your mind put at rest.

These things are very very common and the vast majority are benign. It’s great that you get dealt with quickly and you should have reassurance soon. It’s not nice to be prodded down there. If you need a hysteroscopy which is fairly minor but painful, demand a GA

I had the same issue . Polyp removed twice in outpatient appointment few years apart, ultrasound done . No hysteroscopy for me . All cleared . It’s best to be cautious.
