People filming on their phones in busy public places

I've noticed more and more people filming "crowd scenes" on their phones at busy spots in central London. AIBU to sometimes find this quite intrusive? Today there was a guy filming and I only noticed after I had walked right past him and his phone. He looked annoyed and shouted something (in Italian) at me ... but it was blooming Victoria station at 9am. People are not going to treat those filming crowd scenes in stations at rush hour as though they are a wedding photographer.

I think the tendency to film everything is really, really annoying and disturbing. That said, I’m not entirely sure how intrusive it can be in a crowded train station - it’s public and you’re surrounded by hundreds, if not thousands, of people there. It’s not much of an invasion of privacy; of course, it depends on how the footage is used.

Where I think it’s more problematic is in settings like nights out which are in public spaces, but presumably people who’ve had a drink are having a good time, wouldn’t necessarily want it to be recorded or shared. I’m very glad my going out regularly phase was pre-camera phone.

I don't care if people are filming or taking photos in the busy city centre I visit often, but I'm not staying out of their way either. It's a real place with people who have places to be, not your personal Instagram backdrop.

It's more that I felt as though I had done something wrong for walking past his phone (and therefore interrupting his footage).

Well done OP I’d have done the same, filming in public you takes your chances.

Agree. It's getting ridiculous.

I agree. It is peculiar. All for social media. And I just ignore it.
