This isn’t about denying how common sexual assault is for women, it clearly is. But I sometimes wonder whether the way we talk about it places most of the attention on women’s risk, behaviour and vigilance, rather than on the fact that sexual assault is overwhelmingly committed by men. Instead of constantly framing the issue as “X% of women will experience this”, wouldn’t it be more honest (and more useful) to centre the conversation on perpetrators, accountability and prevention?
AIBU to think the emphasis is skewed?
