Could this be diabetes (symptoms and pictures attached)?

For over a year my urine has been different from how it's ever been before. From about 18 months ago my urine changed texture - started to feel smooth & slimy.
3 months later, I sent a sample of urine to the GP and they said it was fine, tested negative for infection..but I'd tested it at home & got a triple + for protein & nitrites.
For the last 8 months my urine has produced stagnant bubbles and bits of skin-like substance floating on top, every day.

Also have very red soles of feet, almost with pressure points, very dry & painful skin. I also developed 12 verrucas about 2 years ago too, never got these before. I'm not sure what could have caused this - I don't swim or go to gym so couldn't have caught it there.

Blood result a year ago showed CFR in red.

I've been very busy caring for my elderly DF and did not have the energy to chase up the GP. But judging by these symptoms could it be diabetes or something serious that needs to be chased up?

The verrucas were treated and have mostly gone but not totally.

Here are pictures of my feet.

Go to a chiropodist re your feet.

Call your GP again if you think something is seriously amiss with your urine. How much water are you drinking?

No one here can advise as to whether you have diabetes.

Ihateknowingthis · 06/05/2026 15:14

Don't know regards diabetes but your feet need a good sorting, a chiropodist would be a good start.

OhLookLouis · 06/05/2026 15:36

I’m not sure anyone can diagnose you on here, so a good starting point would be to ask your local pharmacist - show them the photos rather than your actual feet though. As for your urine, you need to go back to your doctor and maybe request an urology referral.

Scrumbless · 06/05/2026 15:44

Why are you thinking diabetes? I assume you mean type 2 rather than type 1?

moofolk · 06/05/2026 15:47

For feet it looks like a fungal infection.

Diabetes signs could include tiredness / dizziness in the evening, headaches, excessive thirst, excessive urination (more than just from the extra water drunk), thrush.

Whether you are diabetic or not, a low sugar, low carb diet is a healthy choice while your GP looks into it.

ArtyFartyCrafts · 06/05/2026 15:51

You need a HBa1C blood test to test for diabetes. Ask your GP.

mindutopia · 06/05/2026 15:54

Have you measured your Hba1c or done a finger prick blood test to test your blood sugar? You can get an hba1c kit from places like Boots and Superdrug or order online from most online pharmacies if you can’t be bothered with the GP.

None of those symptoms really points to diabetes, but you quite possibly do have an infection so no sense not getting it all checked.

MarieTheresevonWerdenberg · 06/05/2026 15:54

When did you last have a full blood panel, including HbA1c? It’s a good idea to get this every couple of years or so, especially as one gets older. This is something a practise nurse or nurse practitioner can do.

But you also need to see a podiatrist or chiropodist to get your feet sorted.

12 verruca's at once sounds like an immune issue!

How do you know your urine is slimy and has bubbles in it? Are you collecting it in a container and examining it? Its normal to have a certain amount of skin flora in a urine sample, hence patients are normally asked to provide a mid stream using for testing (unless its for certain STI tests).

When your GP did the blood tests, didn't they also do an HbA1c to look at your sugar level? A raised CRP could be a sign of an auto immune disorder, or depending on the level, just a one off.

I appreciate you are busy with your DF, but you need to chase your GP and look after your own health, considering you are concerned enough to ask on here.

If you have an NHS App you can look up the results of the last tests you had. At our surgery, you can ask for a five year health check, including blood pressure ,bloods and urine that should help you find out.
Write down all your symptoms, especially between now and the appointment. But equally I think the tests they run should help show up what's bothering you. If you think its diabetes, as pp said.. cut out sugar. and replace carbs like white bread as a first step.
If you've been caring for someone, are you getting enough sleep, too stressed? Ask your GP for advice.

Thank you for all your advice. My HbA1c was measured about 18 months ago when it was 1 point below prediabetes. I changed my diet by cutting down on large amounts of cheddar and milk and the result a year later was lower. I might add that my DM had kidney cancer so that heightens my concern about a change in my urine.
