Stupid cystitis treatment - what am I doing wrong?!

I can't get the flipping crystals to dissolve, they just sit at the bottom of the glass mocking me.
Might as well just tip the sachet down my throat and follow it with a glass of water... am I wrong?
Or is there a trick to this that I'm missing...?

I use quite hot water, stir vigorously and then knock it back. Cystopurin dissolves the easiest, i find (and is the only one that works for me).

a quick google suggests they dissolve better if you use warm water instead of cold and also to make sure you use the correct amount of water (about 200 mls). Also (maybe an odd question but is it a brand new sachet ?, because if you;ve had the packet sitting in your medicine cabinet for a little while the crystals can compact and be harder to dissolve)

Ah, I've always used cold, will try hot next time - thanks!

Yeah, brand new, I get through them 😕

Will try the warm water technique next time, thanks!

If you get through OTT sachet stuff then you should get a GP appointment to check for a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) which usually requires antibiotics to treat. There are some "basic" ones which treat most UTIs or if you get them fairly frequently then you might also be asked to have further investigations. If you can't easily get a GP appointment and you are in England then I believe some UTI antibiotics can also be given after a consultation with a pharmacist, which you can get today. I used to get them A LOT and remember thinking that would have freed up a lot of my GPs time. The sachets did not really make any difference.

I use a small water bottle, add the crystals and a small glass worth of water and shake vigorously until dissolved.

If it doesn't go after 2 sachets I do see the GP, but it tends to go after 1 though thankfully!

How old are you? I had no idea that UTIs can be the first sign of early VA and that they can be fixed by magic with vaginal oestrogen. If you are getting them recurrently ... ? If you are 25 unlikely to be the case, but thought I would ask the question in case ...

Blarn · 06/05/2026 13:04

I dissolve in a splash of hot water then top up. Or do like I do for fybogel, tip the sachet into the water, stir until its pretty much disolved then give one ladt quick stir and drink quickly wile its all still a swirling whirlpool.

I'm in my 50s and already using vaginal oestrogen. I probably get 1 every 2 or 3 months but they go away after a sachet or 2, so it's pretty manageable really.

Might be worth talking to GP about upping the dose (of oestrogen).

@cardboard33 "If you are in England then I believe some UTI antibiotics can also be given after a consultation with a pharmacist, which you can get today."

Which is great, but not if you're over 64. (Public Service announcement.) Ask me how I know...

"The sachets did not really make any difference." Agree with this. They alleviated my symptoms temporarily but don't fix the underlying problem. Good luck with it all it's horrid.
