To cancel 6-8 week health visit review

DD’s 6-8 week review is scheduled later this morning. DS was meant to be at nursery but was very unwell in the night- lots of vomiting and slightly high temp. I’ve got no one to watch him at such short notice.

Is it unreasonable to cancel/skip the appointment? I know the service is optional but it just feels ungrateful to decline it on this occasion.

I have no concerns with DD and if I’m honest, I was only going so she could be accurately weighed. She would also be weighed at our 6-8 week GP appointment next week. AIBU to not attend?!

are they seeing you at home or clinic? Let them know ds is ill and reschedule?

yobbo · 06/05/2026 08:05

Just reschedule

TwinklyGoldReader · 06/05/2026 08:11

It’s at a clinic. When I originally booked it they only had two dates to offer, so I think if I reschedule it will be so far in the future it’s needless.

Reschedule. You’re seeing the gp anyway. If you rang and said baby is not well they would tell you not to come

Owly11 · 06/05/2026 08:15

It sounds like you don't want to do it but I think it's silly not to. You might not have concerns but having a professional look over your baby can't do any harm and may pick up something you haven't noticed. Just reschedule it.

Just call them their not going to want you to bring your germs in ask to reschedule if the date is to far in advance then just tell them its ok I won't bother but thanks anyway. Come on you're an adult now a mother of 2 surely you can figure these things out

Reschedule. There is a bug in your house and the HV will be seeing other small babies, some might have compromised immune systems.

Mummyboy1 · 06/05/2026 08:19

I cancelled mine, she was having her 6 week check up the same week with the doctor.

ToffeeCrabApple · 06/05/2026 08:25

Just ring and ask to reschedule. You might find there are other options, they will get this sort of cancellation a lot for babies with grubby toddler siblings bringing bugs home from nursery.

Methodstothemadness · 06/05/2026 08:59

Just phone and cancel so they know that they have the time back for admin

Eenameenadeeka · 06/05/2026 09:04

Well attending a clinic that sees newborns with a vomiting toddler is absolutely not an option, so you obviously have to cancel for today, whether you reschedule or not is up to you.

WhySoManySocks · 06/05/2026 09:06

Reschedule. You and DD might be full of DS's germs as well and it's unfair to bring them to a room full of babies.

TwinklyGoldReader · 06/05/2026 09:13

They have offered to reschedule but it’s the same day as her GP review, so I thanked them but politely declined. I hope my name won’t be blacklisted 😂
