AIBU to think DM is overreacting re burst water pipe in corridor where apartment is?

We are on holiday abroad. Yesterday we had a notice delivered to our apartment saying the water supply maybe affected 11am-6pm (local time) for the next three days (we are going home Thursday pm).

It’s raining here. We heard banging and usual workmen noises outside our apartment. We open the door and saw workmen working on pipes which the panels. Turns out to be a burst water pipe.

My DM is upset that the work is outside our apartment. She read that water supply will be affected- no mention of workmen. She doesn’t understand that if there is a water issue at home, the water board’s contractors locate the issue and fix it. It maybe down the same street or within a few hundred yards.

The leak is coming from the ceiling by the entrance to the empty apartment next to us. So had to walk on taped down plastic sheets to get to the lifts.

If it wasn’t for the rain, we would have got out to the resort and forget about it. But oh no. DM demands compensation. DF and myself are fed up of her moaning. I’m doubt there will be any compensation- even just €25 drink voucher at the bar.

My DM isn’t happy that she was made to walk on plastic sheets. The other apartment next to us which was occupied, the couple were not bothered by walking on the sheeting.

Plus half the lounge areas are out of bounds as relaying the marble and flooring

It would be the last time I holidayed with DM, if I was you.

Personally wouldn't bother me... its an unexpected maintenence issue.

However if you are in a resort, can you not ask.as reception if they have another empty apartment you could relocate to in the meantime?

Is the water gone in the entire resort?

No it’s only affecting the hotel. Toilets and catering pipes are fine

Is your water supply actually affected? If not and it's just workmen trying to fix something then I wouldn't worry about it. However, your OP says it may be affect 11am to 6pm for 3 days - if it's actually off that long it is pretty inconvenient I think. It also depends where you are - budget 3or top of the range 5 handle maintenance different.

I can’t stand people that go out of their way to be offended wherever possible.

Does it really matter that there are a few workmen in the corridor? Does it make any difference that she walked on plastic?

Personally I would be thrilled they’ve managed to find and sort the issue so quickly to restore normal water supply!

It’s an emergency being solved, not an avenue for complaint and compensation
