How long did you wait for your motability car?

Please no bashing

I ordered my new car on Friday, was told it would be ready to collect end of July and gave me a actual date.
Just wondering if it’s realistic or if I will get a call to collect sooner?

Stupidly had the money to pay for the AP there & then but DH had a unexpected bill go out (do have nearly all but down by £50) and of course I do not get paid till end of the month. Terrified they will ring me next week to collect and I don’t have the funds!

Ah ok You said you didn’t get paid until the end of the month, so I assumed you worked. x

Edited

as another person said, you can still work & get PIP. I worked up to a year ago, had to stop as I am waiting on spinal surgery. It’s to help a disabled person wether thats at home or to help them work. It’s non means tested. X

I promise I’m not being goady but i really want to understand more how this works as it’s been on the news/ talk radios a lot. If you both work, why do you get a motability car? Please don’t all come for me, I genuinely am interested.

PIP/DLA isn't an out of work benefit.

Not always true. Some Motability customers order on day one of their ordering window, so have to wait the full three months.

Dealerships will be paying interest to the manufacturer on cars in stock for over 30 days, so wouldn't ring fence a stock car for someone who can't have it for three months and commit themselves to an unnecessary bill. In those circumstances, we'd do a factory order.

Yes if OP has to wait for her existing lease to run out of course she would not get a car from stock. What I was trying to say was just that if it had been from a cancelled order she would have been told and the wait would not be that long. I didn’t actually consider OP had a lease already

Becsue if you qualify for the mobility element of PIP at the enhanced rate you can lease a car with that money. Whether you go to work or not has nothing to do with it.

Because adaptations are bloody expensive and there is no way I could afford to have a van converted to take my child's wheelchair without the help of Motability.

Ours took 23 months but it is an adapted van rather than a straightforward car. It arrived just before his claim was due for renewal

My ds works. He needs a car with hand controls due to being a wheelchair user.

It works by exchanging the mobility element of his pip for an adapted car.

you must change it every 3 years. So every 3 years has to pay an advance payment and adaption costs.

dont be fooled either by the media - it isn’t being a disabled driver. My ds has had 3 medicals since his expired last August and they’ve still not managed to renew it - or respond to let us know what’s going on. Also took them 18 months to issue a provisional license.

I thought they only hold it for a week & then it moves to the next customer waiting. In that case I should hopefully have some wiggle room then!

No, we just told them we were away and agreed a date to collect when we were back
