to find this mother very irritating

She gave ds, who is not talking, a present and a birthday card which showed a mouse and a dinosaur. Inside she had written "fun questions, also for ds's sisters: What does the mouse say to the dinosaur? And what does the dinosaur say to the mouse?"

So I read this to the dd's, ds obv not capable to respond to it. The dd's looked at me blankly, not knowing what to make of it. Pipes up this mum: "what no answers? My dd had hundreds of funny ideas"

"My son has an incredibly pragmatic approach to life, he's not the most imaginative of children but it does make him likeable"

(Subtext - your children are irritating)

Flashman · 20/06/2008 22:10

smugcolditz - that is wonderful!!!!!

Monkeytrousers · 20/06/2008 22:11

tres smug coldtits

Monkeytrousers · 20/06/2008 22:12

(I am still going out when DP bloody well turns up and takes over nightwatch)

blueshoes · 20/06/2008 22:15

Pinky ? I'm confused.

SmugColditz · 20/06/2008 22:16

say it sadly and wistfully.

Mention also how "it's sad how so many silly adults can find imaginative children irritating, isn't it? I suppose that's one plus for ds being as pragmatic as he is - we get invited everywhere because people don't feel offput by him like they do with other children - oh! Not yours, of course, I bet you're always being invited out with your childless friends!"

She isn't always being invited out with her childless friends

Flashman · 20/06/2008 22:23

Oh Pinky is just the name at the moment of unborn child - was getting in trouble for calling Pinky it - seemed apt as DW is just the Brain

blueshoes · 20/06/2008 22:32

Your wife is the brain? I am not sure if I am less confused, but at least I know who pinky is.

Flashman · 20/06/2008 22:36

Oh it is an old 90's carton Pinky and the Brain.

Flashman · 20/06/2008 22:37

Oh it is an old 90's carton Pinky and the Brain.

Psychomum5 · 20/06/2008 22:38

flashman

I am soooooooooooooooooooo looking forwatrd to you as a real parent, rather than just as an expectant one.

you will be much more fun to wind up!!!!

(emkana......I would like to say somehting really cutting to that fucking awful strange woman, but I wouldn;t.......just plan good, cold, fabulous revenge!!!!)

Flashman · 20/06/2008 22:42

Psycho - you know a lot of people have said that to me - I mean how can it come back to bit me on the arse when I ask

"How hard can it be??"

Psychomum5 · 20/06/2008 22:44

you come live in my house, with my five very vocal children (one is 14!), and then see how you fare.

I would bet 1k that you would run and hide within an hour.......

((DH does, after work!!))

Heated · 20/06/2008 22:45

Try "You must be so proud" - done with a innocent expression it's fun watching a competitive mum work out exactly how that's meant.

blueshoes · 20/06/2008 22:50

I must have missed that, flashman. You don't have to wait until pinky is here, you know. You can always flash those scans around and compare head circumferences and femur lengths. But pinky is sooooo active.

Heated, I like your comeback. Best said with a face full of admiration.

Monkeytrousers · 20/06/2008 22:50

If your BW if 'the brain' are you going to be a SAHD???

Monkeytrousers · 20/06/2008 22:51

I like it Heated. It will only hit them when their head hits the pillow that night then - what the fuck did they mean by that???

Loshad · 20/06/2008 22:51

Flashman
come back in 15 years time and answer the question then
When I told my lovley old boss (now very sadly deceased) that i was pg, he said " the first 40 years are the worst"
Oddly enough it looks like he was right

Flashman · 20/06/2008 22:52

MT Maybe - I have a thread on here on my unreasonableness of not wanting to stay at home.

And Pinky is so active it is true - if fact so much i am now sleeping in the other room - he / she kicked me out of bed - true story!!!!

Monkeytrousers · 20/06/2008 22:53

oh, I think I saw that - it will do your head in...welcome to the club! That's what MN is for

handlemecarefully · 20/06/2008 22:55

Blimey - it takes all sorts emkana. She certainly does sound rather wearing!

Flashman · 20/06/2008 22:59

You know I have missed a main point here - how old is your DS?

ilovemydog · 20/06/2008 23:06

the mind boggles - what does a mouse say to a dinosaur?

Scary woman

Flashman · 20/06/2008 23:08

If I was a betting man "Squeak"

Monkeytrousers · 21/06/2008 02:15

Hmm, lesson about 'listening' here for the male(s) of the species

G'night
