AIBU to ask for a better table when dining alone?

I'm having a me day today. Going for a bluebell walk and booked a table at a nearby pub for lunch before the walk, as it's got a good reputation for food. Arrived and was shown to a hastily set up table in the bar area beside the kitchen and next to the pool table with Heart Radio blaring out. I was not impressed.

I went to the toilet before sitting down and noticed loads of two person tables free in the restaurant and asked to be moved to one of those. They did, but said they're booked again in two hours. No problem for me I'll have finished by then.

Am I unreasonable to ask to move and to think that women out alone don't receive the same considerations?

Good for you. Hope lunch was nice 😋

Of course it's not unreasonable but I doubt the crap table was anything to do with being a woman alone, anyone alone would have probably been shoved in the less nice seat

YANBU & well done, I wouldn’t have been impressed either.

Good for you. I will often ask for a different table, alone or not, if they show me to one right in the middle. Its not always possible and I'm always polite but no issue with asking.

I’m not someone who has a problem doing things alone, or asserting myself, but honestly I gave up going to restaurants alone a while back for this reason, I just had one too many experiences of restauranteurs making me feel like I was a nuisance not a customer. It just didn’t feel worth the hassle. (I still eat out alone at cafe-type places). Good for you for standing up for yourself.
