Wildly overenthusiastic show mum

DCs are in a dance show this weekend. They've been practicing and rehearsing for months. First performance was last night.

During the show, one mum was so unbelievably excited whenever her kid came on stage. Standing up for the entire dance, arms out like she was praying. Literally screaming 'I love you'. Crying, blowing kisses, making heart shapes. It was just amazing. People were tutting and shushing her, and the poor people behind her couldn't see. She was filming it as well. The theatre staff warned her at the interval but she carried on in the second half.

This isn't even a AIBU because I know I'm not being. I get that you love your kid. But I love mine and everyone else there loves theirs. Stop being so bloody selfish. The sense of entitlement and the performative love just boiled my piss, honestly. I can see how you would get excited. Some whooping or even some obvious emotion is fine. But sit the fuck down and shut up.

Someone from the dance school or the theatre should have escorted her out.

Her poor kid must have been mortified.

She should have been thrown out

YANBU

But as ever, this is very much a case of the staff not doing their jobs.

The staff are absolutely not to blame. Probably on minimum wage, not paid nearly enough to throw out people who are obviously in an emotional state. They warned her. And shine a torch at her several times. The blame is 100% with the selfish mum.

No it isn't.

They (presumably) knew how much the pay was when they interviewed for and accepted their jobs.

Being on minimum wage is no excuse to not handle a situation, and allow it to spoil other people's enjoyment and also run the risk of putting the children off their performance.

Yes the woman is a twat, but the staff should not have allowed her to continue.

Staff should have done more - that’s what they are there for! And no filming should be allowed full stop.
