Who scammed me- Evri driver or Vinted Seller ?

Dexterrr · 03/05/2026 10:32

Just went to collect a gorgeous bag I bought on Vinted. Went to Evri lockers. My QR code opened a very small locker which could never have fitted such a large bag. It was empty.

Absolutely enraged....but with who?
I can't think how the seller could have sent me nothing. I have heard of items being completely different etc but not an empty collection box

So is it the Evri delivery person? They scanned the parcel, opened a (fat too small ) locker, and took the large parcel? So it tracked as delivered but they stole it?

There is CCTV right over the locker so the police should be able to see. I have reported it to Vinted obviously.

Wonder who has scammed me

YABU - seller has scammed me

YANBU- Evri driver has scammed me

Keen for your thoughts/ opinions/ experiences as I navigate Police and Vinted Support

Could they have put it in the wrong locker somehow? Still possible that might have nicked it but CC TV would make that unlikely. I’ve had all kinds of mishaps with the lockers and avoid choosing that as an option where possible.
I could totally see a situation where they’ve got two lockers open and 2 parcels, they’re talking on the phone or not paying attention and put them both in the other one. Something like that.
Vinted has eventually sorted out all of my issues so you’ll probably get a refund if they can’t find it.
It is interesting though that the fuckups that are not an honest mistake on the part of the seller, ie wrong label on the wrong parcel, therefore more likely an EVRI error, tend to be more expensive items. Boots I was selling for £60 - vanished. Bose earbud case I bought for £50 - mysteriously lost in transit 🙄 I don’t want to think badly of people but unless there’s a giant warehouse full of parcels with missing labels etc then it kind of points to some dishonesty on someone’s part.
My Evri delivery guy is a gem though - he will go the extra mile to make sure things are correct and will come back if I’ve lost track of time and not got a parcel ready to collect.

Option 3: human error?

Dexterrr · 03/05/2026 10:58

Two other parcels collected there today - each about a fiver- perfect
The big item, that is more than I have ever spent on Vinted, £40+, is the one that's missing

So upset. Don't know who to direct my anger towards.

Thanks for a few ideas on what might have happened.

If the item is stolen, or even in the wrong locker inadvertently as described above, I wonder what happens next- depends on who finds two items instead of one in their very big locker....

Just report it to Vinted and they will look into it according to their process - they’ll probably check with the seller in case she has a photo of the parcel and they’ll investigate with the delivery people but I don’t know how thoroughly or quickly they will do that.
With my missing earbuds I had to wait over a month to report them missing which was really annoying. But in the end both the seller and I got the money which was fair. Same with the boots although Vinted asked a huge amount of questions about the parcel - now when I’m sending something expensive I take loads of photos as I’m wrapping and labelling it, even a photo as I’m dropping it at the EVRI shop.

CoverIt · 03/05/2026 11:20

@Dexterrr and yes, so strange that the expensive item is that one that’s missing 🙄

MrsMabelThorpe · 03/05/2026 11:28

Unless the seller lives in the same place as you and used the same lockers (and even then, I suspect Evri's process is dependent on it going to a sorting hub and then being sent back out) an actual package had to be found, scanned etc or you would not have any tracking. They wouldn't - couldn't, without something to scan - be able to track and deliver a non-existent item. The seller must have posted something.

Therefore the mistake or theft is likely to be Evri's problem, but you don't have a contract with the delivery company anyway. All you can do is raise a dispute with Vinted and leave them to investigate.

I had a similar (sort of) experience, but as the Seller. I sold a book on Ebay, printed off the Evri label and took it to the post office to be delivered. A couple of days later, the buyer contacted me to say that when they collected the parcel it was empty. They took photos and said it appeared that the book was stolen.

The person I was communicating with seemed genuine. I refunded them the money. I can't understand why someone would want to steal a book, however. It wasn't rare and expensive. The buyer said that you could see where someone had cut into it, so I suppose it's possible that an Evri driver (or someone else) could have cut it open to see if there was anything valuable in it - and just ditched it when they realised it was a book? Still seems odd, though.

Thanks everyone.
Yes this lies with the Evri handler.
I believe they have stolen the parcel
I find it hard to believe they accidentally put a large parcel into the wrong locker!
Thief is far more likely.
Contacted police and raised with Vinted.

Good luck, hope it gets sorted out.

Passaggressfedup · 03/05/2026 15:46

This happened to me. It was Ivri. Raised the issue with Vinted and Ivri. Both investigated. Took many weeks. Was gutted as I really wanted the parcel. And then one day got notification to pick it up and it was there. Couldn't believe it! Owner was not at fault at all.

luckylavender · 03/05/2026 15:56

How could we know?

Is thief really more likely though? Is a driver really going to risk losing their job or possible jail for some second hand items from Vinted? If I was going to take a risk like that I'd wait until I was delivering a big order from Apple, or a jeweller. Not for some possible fake tat! No offense ;)

Amethystanddiamonds · 03/05/2026 16:10

I don't have any faith in Evri. My stuff frequently gets 'lost'. Our local warehouse must be massive as they've managed to misplace a children's climbing frame/slide recently, not long after they lost a different (also expensive) item.

SEmyarse · 03/05/2026 16:34

I'm an evri driver. I don't have lockers on my patch, but if I did, I guess I'd try to deliver it, but if the locker were too small I'd just have to return it. Is it possible it's registered as delivered because he scanned it hoping a larger locker would open, but when it wouldn't fit I'd send it back to the depot. Who of course might not correctly scan it back in.

It is of course possible it's been nicked by the courier, there's plenty of wrong'uns, but I wouldn't necessarily jump to this as the first explanation. Obviously good there is cctv at the lockers, so you should be able to find out.
