AIBU to wonder why people can’t clean up after themselves

AIBU to wonder why grown adults leave communal toilets in such a state?

I work in an office of educated professional people. At least a couple of times a week I encounter a toilet that I have to clean up before I use it. Skid marks in the pan. Wee on the seat. Loo roll on the floors Stray hairs on the seat. And most bizarrely of all, unflushed.

I encounter similar at a gym / swimming pool I use at a local health centre.

These places aren’t a pub at 10:30 on a Saturday night. Why are people completely incapable of cleaning up after themselves? Or am I being precious?

Probably the same people who don’t wash their hands after having a wee. I fail to understand how people can leave toilets so disgusting.

I’m a children’s nurse and my bugbear are the parents who dump all their washing up in the parent’s kitchen sink (solely for them to use to make tea, toast, food). As if there is a magical washing up fairy. One parent told me she was surprised she had to do her own washing up.

They leave food on the side, washing up in the sink, plates and cups out, food wrappers everywhere, used tea bags. Just, why? One parent broke our kettle because they tried boiling an egg in it. FFS. Clean up your mess.

I'm part of a litter picking group OP.
In the country lanes around here we find dirty nappies, bottles of wee, shat pants, used condoms, dog poo bags in trees, takeaway litter, vapes, odd socks........the list is endless.

At the gym the other day someone had left a used tampon on top of the shower gel dispenser.

What must their homes be like.

Maybe it’s my age, but I notice a lot more litter lying around outside these days. I get that you can drop a tissue and not notice, but I see so many cans and bottles.

I might start litter picking.

same when there is a shared tea / coffee bar, it's always the same one or 2 people that end up cleaning it up as everyone else just leaves whatever mess they make! Drives me potty!

Teacher here. It's the same in the staff toilets. I'm amazed how selfish and dirty people are.

I was talking to a park keeper today about this - with a bit of warm weather everyone is out having a lovely time, which is nice, but the litter and dumping of rubbish was awful.
I was saying how when we visited Japan there are no public bins at all and everyone just knows to take their own rubbish home there and takes responsibility for it. Such a different attitude to here where everything thinks it’s fine to dump it as someone else will pick it up for them.

I went to Westminster Abbey recently, I was in constant awe and amazement at the beauty of it all. I then went to the toilets. They were terrible. How women had got them into that state is beyond me, a beautiful place of reverence.

YANBU OP.

People are lazy skanks. Happens at my gym, not just the members but instructors leave the loos disgusting as well. I left one gym a few years ago due to the constant state of the loos.

I live very close to several beaches on the south coast and over the last few years in particular, the litter problem has been hideous during the warmer days leading into summer. It gets much worse in school holidays, groups of teenagers getting McDs or fish and chips etc. and just leaving the mess behind.

There is a designated BBQ area with seating and somewhere to put your BBQ but still the lazy arses just get up and wander off leaving all the litter for the poor street cleaner people who do a great job. People use BBQs on the beach and then bury the still smouldering item into the shingle. Why??

What's so difficult in putting all your rubbish into a carrier bag and putting into a bin at the site or take it home and put in your own bin.

I feel murderous at how much litter there is around today, it is just so unnecessary but unfortunately, we have a lot of dirty, lazy shitbags living amongst us and I doubt it will change any time soon. 😥😡

Things I learn about people when picking litter.

People who drink energy drinks, coke, cider, half bottle of vodka or wine in cans are the most likely people to litter.

People who buy (or get a free) massive drink with their takeaway never drink all of it and will drop the cup, straw, lid and leftover drink anywhere they like. Or leave it on someone's garden wall. Or grave.

People who vape will open a packet and drop every single bit of it on the floor as they stroll along. Smokers will do this too.

Taxi drivers piss in bags or bottles and drop them in lay-bys. Also lorry drivers.

People who throw takeaway litter from cars never think to keep the unopened plastic sauce tubs. They just go out of the window too.

School children drop every single MAOAM wrapper on their way to and from school. If you give your child a snack to have at school they will eat it on the way there and drop the packet. Ditto drink container.

The sort of people who only come out when the sun is shining are MUCH more likely to litter.

Dog poo bags don't disappear if you hang them in a tree or leave them on a tree stump for the journey home (but go home another way).

Those half dozen extra dog poo bags you put in your pocket and then lose when you get your hanky out. They don't disappear either.

People wee and shit in hedges and nooks and crannies, use a tissue (or on one occasion a scarf) to wipe and then drop it where they crouch.

People cannot keep a hold of anything. Amongst the litter is an array of lost things. Keys, specs, cardigans, socks, pants, toys, gloves, mobiles, library books. Easy come. Easy go.

The other bug bear is cigarette ends. Why do they just get discarded? It’s disgusting, really vile, especially on the beach. I can’t understand the mentality at all.
