AIBU to find it weird he sits on an open loo?

What it says really.
We both perch on the loo when we are giving the children a bath. I always put the lid down (like a normal person). I discovered yesterday than he is just merrily sitting on the open seat - with his trousers on, I should add - with nothing between his suspended bum and the cold depths of the U-Bend from which Anything might Emerge.
I’ve been thinking about it all day.

YABU: DH should carry on as he is, unafraid of bog snakes!

I cant believe so many people have such pathetic toilet seat lids. I'm very overweight and sit on the plastic lid regularly (past and present houses). I've even been known to stand on them to catch spiders or bugs crawling across the ceiling.

For 70 years I have sat on a huge variety of loo seat lids and never broken one. All plastic, as far as I remember.

I sat on the lid whilst trying to fix the door lock, it snapped so instead of saving money it cost me.

I've certainly seen really cheap flimsy-looking loo lids that don't look much thicker or stronger than a yoghut pot, but I've always bought robust ones that have no trouble taking weight. I would certainly use a closed-lid loo as a seat if needed and would never sit on an open-lid loo in clothes - I'd just not sit down if the lid was absent/broken/looking too flimsy.

Surely, for maximum effect, the bog snake would wait for a naked bum? Much more fun.

Eww because of getting bum germs on his clothes. It would just feel so wrong as well.

I have a Japanese-style electric toilet seat with bidet, heated seat, air dryer etc. The cover is plastic and slants down at an angle. I’ve never tried sitting on it, but it definitely looks too flimsy to be sat on. I wouldn’t want to risk cracking it and then ruining something that would be expensive to replace. If I was going to sit on the toilet then the lid would always be up.

I’ve never had a need to sit on a toilet for anything other than its intended purpose, but given that the two components on top of the bowl are the seat and the lid it’s logical that one would sit on the thing designed to be sat on, not on the thing designed to cover it. If nothing else it’d be more comfortable. For those worried about germs from sitting on a toilet seat, how dirty are your bathrooms, toilets and the users of the toilet for that to be a concern ;)

I would have agreed with this post until getting a new bathroom recently. As I was bathing my grandson sat on the new loo and toilet seat and it cracked because it’s a new type of seat that goes all the way over!
