To think people only want stuff now if it’s free

Listed loads of stuff for free goes right away. I list things for a few pounds no one buys it.

I think a lot of people do this as they want to resell on vinted these days

Jellybunny98 · 01/05/2026 13:00

Totally agree, and even when its free people still want more😂 we redecorated last year and were giving away a Sofology sofa only used for a few years great condition, dining table & chairs again only a couple years old, a double bed, a few others bits, popped it on all marketplace for free purely because we couldn’t be bothered waiting for stuff to sell, clearly stated in the advert had to be collected and immediately had 20+ messages asking if we can deliver

CrapGardener · 01/05/2026 13:29

Yep. We listed a computer monitor online for £20, it’s easily worth £100 but we just wanted it gone. No takers for over a week.

Dropped it to free and people were fighting over it and ironically offering £20 for it if we picked them out of the 30 odd “pick me pick me” comments.

What I hate is the “I have absolutely nothing/I’m fleeing DV” comments. If I wanted some sob story, I’d watch Emmerdale. Do you want the item or not.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 01/05/2026 13:33

Depends what it is. Sometimes there's a greater value perception if you're charging for something and you're less likely to get messed around over collection, etc.

The thing that irritates me on thrifting pages is people posting along the lines of, "anyone thrifting a cooker/three piece suite/top of the range bike/washing machine"!

Greycatthewizard · 01/05/2026 13:43

Yes, the will you deliver for free! I had a couple ask what size car I drove so I could deliver, gave a day and exact time too!
That was because I stated on advert that should go in medium car with back seats down!

Greycatthewizard · 01/05/2026 13:46

That’s why I now love Olio, you leave them a review. No shows and rude are marked down.

PoppySaidYesIKnow · 01/05/2026 15:33

It’s true. On fb marketplace if you give anything for free the vultures are messaging within minutes. List it for a still bargain price and nobody messages.

Yeah this takes the absolute P.

I'd be like ok.... pay for a van then ✌🏻

Peachie31 · 01/05/2026 15:42

I've tried to get rid of some bits lately.

£20 - nobody wants them.

Free? Absolutely.

I'd genuinely rather take it to the tip.

Too true unfortunately

It doesn’t seem unreasonable to prefer something for free than to have to pay for it.

I’m more aghast at the propensity for people these days to try to make money out of their cast-offs.
