A direct question to those who do this. Can you please explain to me why?

I ask people if they have headphones because their noise is annoying, or if they are playing music, I ask them to play Billy Joel. They look at me gone out and I tell them I’d like them to play some music I can enjoy instead of the garbage they are playing as it’s clearly meant to be a group activity.

It is certainly true that people who play music publically also have the worst taste in music.

It's not something I make a habit of, but my mum has hearing loss and can only seem to hear me on the phone when I put it on speaker, but if I have to do that in front of other people I try to keep it short & to the point.

I have even started noticing this happening in supermarkets now: someone shops via video call and walks all the way around the store having a loud chat with the other person on the phone 😳

Sat waiting for a train this week, the train before mine is on the platform and not quiet. Bloke next to me, screaming into the call on loud speaker because of the train noise. At no point did he he think to move away from the train, and yup! He was just talking crap and we all got to listen 🙄

Something has gone terribly wrong, hasn’t it. Supermarket yesterday, a couple shouting across the aisle about their product choices and meal planning. As if nobody else was there. Not a concern in the world for tact or decorum , decency or the fact that they were shouting across other people who were trying to decide things in their own heads. And people walking past blaring into their phones. I really can’t bear trains, tube, or shops anymore. Other peoples lack of sensitivity is ruining many peoples interactions with the world.

I was on a bus the other day and there was a young man watching very loud videos on his phone - the entire bus had no option not but to listen to them.

He was behind me as we were both getting off the bus, so I very politely suggested that he might want to use earphones next time so that the sound didn't disturb other passengers. He responded with a fairly extreme barrage of abuse. I guess some people just don't give a shit.

I’m baffled that nobody has come on to defend themselves, given the number of people who do this! The last time I was on a train there was a young woman conducting an interview via Teams on the train. 😳 She wasn’t wearing headphones so the entire carriage could hear everything the candidate was saying. 🤦‍♀️😂 A few glares from myself and few others didn’t work so a few of us started giving loud feedback on the candidates responses. She remained oblivious!🙄😂 I wonder if the candidate got the job and secretly hope we saved them from working with an absolute arsehole!

That was a big problem during covid when they only let one person in the supermarket so the man went in, but he couldn't manage to do family grocery shopping without help from his wife on a live video call.

Can't stand this, and I like the fact nobody has come on here to say they think it's fine. I like taking calls on loudspeaker rather than with the phone to my ear, but in private fgs, not public. Another similar bugbear (again, usually on trains!) is when people are messaging so allow their phone to constantly beep. You are literally sitting there looking at your phone; you can see the messages coming in - put it on silent.

Even worse is someone who hasn’t turned off the noises it can make when you press any key!! Like on old Nokias

Well, it's still happening in the supermarket I go go!

’Decorum’. What a great word, but sadly missing from so many people’s behaviour. Strange no one has come on to this thread to defend their rights.

Ditto people who watch videos or listen to music out loud in public places.
