You need to tackle the dryness first and the your skin will look much better.

Fake tan needs moisturised skin to look could otherwise it will be patchy.

Do you exfoliate and moisturise?

I would make sure to exfoliate the day before, particularly around the elbows, knees, hands and ankle areas. Before applying the fake tan I lightly moisturise the same areas. Make sure to shave 24 hours before and I’ve found leaving a solid 6-8 hours after a shower to apply the tan gives me the best results. I quite like the dove gradual tan, St Tropez tan or Isle of Paradise 30 minute tan. When it comes to showering off I try to only wash the main areas (eg pits and bits) and then a good moisturiser to lock it all in.

What moisturiser and exfoliate would you recommend? I’m currently using garnier vitamin c cream but looking at L’Oréal revitalift as a moisturiser?

Thank you, I used to use the dove gradual tan but it used to go patchy, maybe with better skin care it won’t?

Dry skin here "mature", my dermatologist would be horrified at the idea of exfoliating dry skin..I use eucerin moisturiser products. Blue eyed blond, skin cancer twice. I used Johnsons Holiday skin,or Dove.

If you want to look less pale, a tanning product would be better. It doesn't necessarily need to be a full-on fake tan - tanning drops to add to your normal skincare can help.

Tinted moisturiser needs to match your skin in the same way a foundation would, not darken it. It's great for evening out your skin tone and making it look healthier and more consistent, but not for making it look darker.

What you could do - which would be my preference - would be to use a tinted moisturiser than matches your skin and then sweep a (very light!) bronzer over your cheekbones, temples and jawline (with a very fat brush, you kind of draw a number 3 on each side of your face). That will give you a bit of colour and depth without looking flat and artificial.

A little dab of cream blusher on the apples of your cheeks could also help a lot.

I'm speaking here as someone who is exceptionally pale. I'm basically the colour of skimmed milk.
