AIBU to focus on inches lost rather than the scales?

I am 57 and for the last 18 months i have been trying to lose weight. I lost consistently and well, then about 12 months in the scales stopped moving. I started weight training more often and taking regular short walks of a couple of miles or so.
The scales are not significantly shifting but the inches are in a significant way- ive gone down between 1 and 2 sizes, and my body fat percentage has dropped too
So, in this situation should i actually care about my weight, or is the inch/fat reduction more important?
It is so hard to see the scales stuck!

I must say OP that I never weigh myself but judge my weight loss by the clothes I can get into again or fit me better. And by looking at myself in the mirror and actually seeing I looking better in my clothes.
I dont class myself as someone who diets but if I feel my clothes getting tighter or I can no longer get into things then I will make adjustments and cut out some of my bad habits and exercise more.

I completely agree with you and recommended this to my friend who had bariatric surgery. Of course she didnt listen and when her weight on the scales plateaued she felt de-motivated.

66 here and no idea what I weigh (though it's considerably less than 3 months ago) because I refuse to let a number on the scale dictate how I feel on any given day. After Christmas, everything was feeling rather tight, and the mirror showed me more chins than I was happy with - so I went low-carb, and it's working. I've lost a couple of sizes in clothes, quite easily. The plan is to keep going - but definitely NO weighing myself - that way lies misery! I get weighed at the docs twice a year during routine check-ups - and ask them not to tell me the results, just whether it's up or down from the previous weigh-in. That tells me all I need to know :)

Definitely focus on your clothes size, since you’re working out you’ll be putting on muscle which weighs heavier than fat , you’ll still see your body changing and your weight may increase but your muscles will be better defined .
well done , don’t loose heart 😊

A pound of muscle = a pound of fat = a pound of feathers.

Muscle is denser so takes up less space in the body than fat (not sure about the feathers!) so you will look leaner and have lost inches.

One should never weigh themselves. Scales is usually so wrong. You should measure your inches instead. And I'm sure you must feel energetic and active after all that struggle.

The only scales is my house are in the kitchen. I’m not heavy but I’d break them if I stood on them. Definitely focus on how well your clothes fit and how much slimmer you feel.
