Gorgeous day, one load of washing out and I’ve just put another load in. I have to get it out as my neighbour has said I can dry it in her garden today
went to have a coffee in my garden and now there’s billowing black smoke and a smell of burning acrid plastic
FFS! Now I’ve got a load of wet washing that all has to dry inside AngryAngry

Selfish twat! What’s wrong with people

I have no idea what they’re burning but it smells like melted plastic. Love the smell of wood fires but this is rank

Maybe they have a load of wood that needs burning. are they meant to go over the whole neighbourhood asking for permission? if its not every day/week then get over it.

We had that smell from a neighbour's house once and their black bin was on fire. They'd put barbecue coals in it before they'd cooled down 😲

By the time we realised it'd melted all over their drive.

Pisses me off no end when people do this. Lazy and thoughtless.

Didn't understand the relevance of hanging it in your neighbour’s garden - do you not have a washing line in your own garden? If not and you can fit one, I fully recommend you do as it saves a fortune in tumble drying (when your neighbours aren’t burning crap!)

I got 4 wash loads done and dried on the outdoor line today 😊

Currently living in a rented whilst my house sale progresses. In the neighbourhood around where I am living it seems to be the norm to have bonfires in the back garden. Last couple of days someone is burning something. I do find it a bit strange as the village I sold my house in it was considered to be anti social and invariably called out on the local FB.

I’m not allowed to dry in my own garden as it’s an apartment but my neighbour is a house, so I lift my airer over and dry in hers

I live in a town centre terrace and next door but two like to have bonfires in the yard. They are small back to back style yards, not even big gardens. I don't think anyone will report it unless they have to because their property catches fire because you tend to keep to yourself and mind your own business round here but it's annoying and I'm guessing illegal.

The op has said it's not wood.

we had a bonfire last weekend. I make no apologies.

I did look over the fence as far as I am able to see if anyone has washing out, but it is pretty hard to see. We did it at 4 pm, so past the time most people are outside, it was sunny but cool/cold, and so pre BBQ season.

Why? Well, we had an enormous pile of prunings and cuttings. We had already sawn anything thick enough into logs for the fire, and chopped small branches into bags of kindling. We have taken two very full loads to the tip (and we have a people carrier, so we can fit a lot in) and the rest we burnt.

Because it was mostly dry, we expected it to burn 'clean' but one set of cuttings from one of the trees went up in billowing black smoke, I have no idea why.

We have a bonfire about once every 2 years. We usually do it in the autumn, but we didn't this year, so the pile of prunings etc was pretty big.
It is part of life with a largeish garden and big bushes.

I have no objection to neighbours also having the occasional bonfire. Or the noise of kids playing in the garden, or dogs sometimes barking, etc

What I do object to is very loud music which comes right across several gardens into mine, but I am pretty sure only when parents are out
