Is this going to make her ill- fresh cream out of fridge for 2 days!

Dd made a cake on Thursday. We cut it in half and she put fresh cream and jam in one half. I meant to put it in the fridge but forgot. It was left on the side of kitchen counter in a box. I’ve had a crazy few days and forgot to throw it away. She said I’m going to have a piece of cake and I said don’t have that one with cream in eat the other half with jam in it. She then told me she had already eaten a small slice today. Is this going to make her really ill?

Have you smelt it? It’ll stink if it’s off. If not, she might be ok but I wouldn’t eat any more.

I doubt it will cause any big issue if the cream didn't taste or smell bad. At least it was only a small slice.

It’s thrown away now but smelt ok. Feel really terrible that I hadn’t dealt with it before now.

I dont like cream in the fridge, I like it room temperature

In the old days cream cakes in the bakers were not in the fridge

Fat takes a long time to go off, full fat cheese, milk, butter, cream, cottage cheese etc all are protected, I usually leave my milk out all day so Im not in and out of the fridge. I leave butter out on the worktop

Fat protects things from going off, like potted beef or potted shrimp.

I would like a cream cake now.

Nah, it would have been revolting if it was off. If it tasted fine she'll be fine.

Justmoveon · 25/04/2026 14:37

Thanks all…. You have made me feel better

Bit heartbroken at the thought of that cake in that bin

I can visualise it from here.

I would always leave a fresh cream cake on the counter for a couple of days (it never lasts longer then that)! I don't mind chilled cream, but putting cake in the fridge should be a crime.

Dairy is generally very safe, because it smells/tastes awful BEFORE it is dangerous.

Createausername1970 · 25/04/2026 14:45

Agree with the consensus. It would probably have been fine and if not she probably would have known immediately from the taste and smell. Similar to milk.

I am mourning a cake in the bin 🎂😥

Poor cake. Strawberry and cream cake ☺️
