AIBU to wonder about bedwetting returning after a dry spell?

My DS is 7 and still wetting the bed at night and I’m not sure if I should be doing anything differently or just waiting it out.

He’s been in pull-ups overnight for a long time, which has been fine, but recently he’s started to seem a bit embarrassed about wearing them.

What’s confusing me is that he actually went through a phase of being completely dry for about 2 months recently - every night, so we stopped using pull ups and I thought we’d turned a corner. But over the last couple of weeks he’s started wetting again most nights. The amount of laundry is ridiculous.

Nothing has really changed that I can think of. The only difference is the weather being a bit warmer lately. We make sure he wees twice before bed (double wee), and we stop drinks about 1.5–2 hours before bedtime.

He doesn’t have any daytime accidents, and he seems otherwise well.

I’m not sure whether this is just one of those normal developmental things where they go forwards and backwards, or if I should be trying something else. I’m also conscious he’s starting to feel self-conscious about the pull-ups.
I did contact the GP previously and they said they wouldn’t do anything until he’s 8.

Has anyone else had similar where they were dry and then started again? Did it resolve on its own or did you try anything that helped?

My DS who is 12 is not dry and I feel your pain on the washing. Is about 4 nights out of 7 - the only good thing being it is now warmer and everything, including the duvet, dries quicker at this time of year. He did stop at about 4years old for about 3 years and then it restarted. Over the last 4 years my DS has been prescribed various medication some of which was more effective than others now on a wait list for a urologist.

My advice would be to see the GP and get referred to the enuresis clinic as there is often a long wait. I would also invest in an alarm and get on the ERIC website. There is a hormone we produce that may not be working properly for your DS or he may not be drinking enough during the day and stretching his bladder properly. We have found there is no easy fix but I know many people have different experiences and your DS may respond quickly.

Good luck, I know it can feel soul destroying at times ….
