To feel like police rarely do anything in harassment case

I saw a young woman on tik tok that’s been harassed by an anonymous person. The police tracked it and just went round and and spoke to her which doesn’t seem enough really. Also had a case where a friend was messaged by a person who sent mutiple messages to their friends and family and posted online about her but only got a telling off no legal action.

Not enough to go on here because sometimes a person feeling harassed doesn't actually constitute harassment in law.

And the police know what will stand up in court and what won't.

How many harassment cases have you studied to some to your conclusion?
Or is the just the one random TikTok story that you are basing your sweeping statement on?

I think people often don't appreciate how little you need to do to fall within the potential scope of harassment.

"Harassment may include:

  • sending abusive text messages or images
  • posting abusive messages on social media
  • neighbour disputes that involve abusive behaviour or damage to property
  • repeated antisocial behaviour
  • making unwanted or offensive phone calls
It's harassment if the unwanted behaviour has happened two times or more and made you feel distressed or threatened."

Thinking of your own behaviour - have you ever sent someone an angry text message, posted something passive aggressive on social media? If the recipient, who could well be a total twat who's behaved horribly to you/your family/your friends in the past and deserves a telling off, complains to the police and says your texts and posts made them feel distressed, boom that is a formal complaint to the police of harassment. What do you then expect the police to do, anything more than speaking to you on the matter and telling you both to ignore each other is way OTT.

Harassment isn't always a full blown stalking campaign or having your neighbour leaving dog poo painted on your car door handle and weed killering your lawn because of a parking dispute.

Police will do nothing, and legal action goes nowhere. Our neighbours are the most evil people to ever walk the earth. Solicitor can do nothing because they are not family or partners. Police keep saying it’s not enough to prosecute. Well no actually it is, we have diaries, we have audio, we have video and we have witnesses but nobody actually wants to because they aren’t being physically abusive. It’s a living nightmare.
