Don't know anyone who can sign passport

Ahhffs · Today 10:22

I'm really stuck! I knew one person with a qualifying job but they couldn't do it as their passport has expired
i literally don't know any other people
is a carer /care home worker able to sign them? That's literally the only other person I can think of.
what do I do if I can't find anyone? Am I just not able to get a passport?

The list of suggested professions is not exhaustive and really it just needs to be someone in good standing that you’ve know awhile. I had a work colleague sign for me, she just had a normal job etc. It was fine.

SunshineOnARainyLeith · Today 10:26

Do you have any optician or dentist or GP? They can sign.

ButterYellowHair · Today 10:26

Just get anyone who doesn’t have a criminal record and who has a job and has known you two years to do it. They don’t need to be on the list just need a UK passport and to be of good standing.

Most won’t do that for you. It’s not in their job description to legally confirm who you are.

ParisianLady · Today 10:27

That’s frustrating, however the list of who can sign is perhaps wider than you think, eg anyone who is a Director or Manager of a VAT listed or limited company. Anyone in any kind of ‘recognised’ profession counts, it doesn’t have to be on the list either, they’re just examples.

Could you list professions that you do know, perhaps someone wise might have advice about if the can sign for you?

Teenagerantruns · Today 10:29

My manager at the care home l worked at signed my last one, just had to be person of good standing whatever that is...

Hopefulsalmon · Today 10:29

Do you work in a care home OP? The manager would be fine.

dementedpixie · Today 10:29

Have you never had a passport before?
Any neighbours who are nurses, small business owners, etc

Riapia · Today 10:30

My NDN signed for me.
He works for the local council, not in a supervisory position.
was accepted with no problem.
Good luck.

WhereTheHellAreMyGlasses · Today 10:30

In the past I’ve known anyone who works for a local authority to be accepted, or a civil servant or someone who works in any other public body.

LittleMissClutter · Today 10:30

Do you know anyone who works for their local council?

They can do it as long as they're on a permanent contract and have known you for 2 years.

Octavia64 · Today 10:31

Teacher, nurse, physio, anyone who works for the civil service, manager at care home?

Justploddingonandon · Today 10:31

Do you know anyone who runs their own business? A lot of self employed tradespeople and people like hairdressers fall into this category.

LittleMissClutter · Today 10:33

Actually I got mine signed by the woman who owns my local off-licence.

She knew me well 😬🍷

Motomum23 · Today 10:33

I asked a licensed cafe worker i was friendly with once. Or a teacher at your childs school.

NorthFacingGardener · Today 10:33

The person who signed mine works in the NHS but not in a clinical or professionally registered capacity.

To be honest I’m not sure they check it all that thoroughly.. you may as well try online and if they say no then you’ll have to think again.

HellsAngel81 · Today 10:34

Do you know any vets or veterinary nurses? Both of these are able to sign.

Bunnyofhope · Today 10:39

One of your own ex teachers? Your doctor (for a fee)? A social worker or ex social worker? Any neighbours or school mums who work in a profession? A friend of an adult DC? The minister who married you, conducted a funeral you organised? A small business owner? A friend of your parents?

Terfedout · Today 10:45

I have a normal job and have signed plenty with no issues.

Needspaceforlego · Today 10:47

Basically it needs to be someone who's got something to lose if they lied.

Do you know any small business owners?
Anyone whos listed at companies house, painters, plumbers, those sorts of trades are often self employed ltd and VAT registered.

Some bigger hairdressers / beauticians might be limited companies

Nurses, physios, dentist 😬?

CandyEnclosingInvisible · Today 10:51

Anyone who has known you for 2 years and is "in good standing" can sign. They do not have to be on the list of professions. List the jobs of 10 people who you have known you for at least 2 years and at least half of them will be suitable unless the only people you know are criminals and drug addicts.

Holesinmesocks · Today 10:55

If amuses me with the 'person of good standing' list i.e police, politician etc when they can be as dodgy as fuck.
Dotis 3 doors down is probably more good standing than many of the named suggestions on the list.

Parsleyforme · Today 11:01

I used the “check and send” service at the post office once - do they do the verification bit? Can’t remember. I would ask anyone (including neighbours) who is a member of a professional body

LostMySocks · Today 11:05

Do you have children in clubs? Leaders of recognised youth groups such as Girlguiding and Scouts can sign.
Or if you attend a Church or other place of worship then ministers can sign.

Boreded · Today 11:27

If you know more than one person then you will know someone who can sign. Does your next door neighbour have a job? There you go
