If you paid for the x2 doses of chicken pox, do you think a third is safe now it’s part of the MMR?

Child’s now ready for second dose of MMR but they are only offering MMRV on NHS now. would it be better to avoid this and get MMR without the chicken pox dose which is available at Boots

dont know what to do!

Talk to your doctor. Posts about vaccinations on here tend to attract antivaxxers who will push their lies

Ask the practice nurse, there’s got to be loads of people in your position so they must have an answer for it. My guess is that if they’re only offering the MMRV it’s fine. One of my kids had the MMRV then 2 doses of the single chickenpox vaccine and one of the MMR (so think same as you’re proposing but different order) as that’s what the private GP recommended to get her up to date after a few moves abroad with different schedules.

@randomchap doctor said it’s fine but also admitted it was freshly rolled out so no real data on a third dose

My toddler had her first MMR a few months ago. Last week she had the MMRV. The nurse was adamant it’s fine and safe when I asked. I decided to go ahead with it as weighing it up for about 20 seconds, I’d rather she was fully immunised, even if she’s got extra dose of the MMR part. Now she’s about as protected from all of them as she can be.

having a third dose of something you don't really need is not generally going to cause any harm.

I'm pretty sure i have had four doses of MMR. My doctors were doing an audit and couldn't find records of them in my childhood. My parents are the most pro vax people you'll ever meet and they thought i'd had them but couldn't find my red book though were adamant i'd had them esp as my sister had caught the measles as a baby.

Doctor was like "it's better to have it and no need it as it won't do you any harm than have not had it and needed it"

It’s perfectly safe. You can’t over vaccinate. Practice nurse.

Children may have had chickenpox but still get the MMRV afterwards, it's not an issue.

On a side note, I'm so glad they are bringing this in. DD1 was extremely unwell with chickenpox for over a month, at age of 2 and she is still has deep scars at age of 10, so it isn't mind for everyone. We paid to get DD2 vaccinated as we couldn't go through that again
