Cats’ brains - so weird

Snooks1971 · 20/04/2026 20:29

I love them so much but why are they so strange?
I’m 55 and had cats all my life but they never cease to amaze me with their habits.
This is a photo of one of our rescue twins going underneath the folded over bath mat before I go in…
Whyyyyyyy???

Both my black cats loved burrowing under the same bath mat, a funny habit considering that they never met each other. Must be a black cat thing!

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 20/04/2026 22:17

Because they silently judge your body in.the bath. My black cat comes in and looks at me like why don't you have fur?

madnessitellyou · 20/04/2026 22:21

One of ours has to come into the bathroom when I shower. He sits in a specific place, loafs, then stays there until I’m out. The other one runs at 3,000 mph when she even hears the shower going.

They both will insist on trying a different door/window to go out of if it’s raining, as if a different door will have different weather beyond it.

Mad!

So precious

beautiful little weirdos

RebeccaDecember · 20/04/2026 23:05

We have plenty of cozy places for her to curl up, but she favours a brown paper bag? 🤷‍♀️

Our 2 cats avoid the bathroom probably because they both have had to be bathed on at least one occasion. They certainly wouldn’t want any repetition.
They do love boxed and bags to explore.

shellyleppard · 20/04/2026 23:21

@RebeccaDecember we have cat beds/hammocks etc all round the house. My lot prefer a paper bag. Or a cardboard box. Their best ones are from IKEA with the crinkly paper in....cat heaven lol

Penelope does this. She sits on the bath mat looking judgemental.

New favourite place to chill..

My cat always waits for me outside the door when I am in the bath or shower - rarely when doing anything else.

Cats are weird 😂

DrCoconut · Yesterday 00:11

Ours likes the alcove in my room. Or to sit in the living room window having swatted everything off first. We don't put much on there now. We also found him settled in the open suitcase just before our holiday.

mjf981 · Yesterday 00:13

I bloody love cats.

I think anyone who claims they don't, just hasn't met the right cat yet. I know a tough old farmer who has always had dogs. However a cat has now appeared (Brian) and he is absolutely smitten. He won't stop going on about him!!

@shellyleppard that’s not a cat, that’s Brian Blessed!

I presumed that now my toddlers are fully grown and young adults that I could have a poo in peace. Oh no, the pitiful miaows outside the closed bathroom door 😭

My white cat used to come into the bathroom usually when I’d finished and try and work out what was happening there. I’m sure he worked out water figured in it.

My late cat would demand to be cuddled while I was on the toilet. She was relentless. 😂

Mine are masters of achieving obsessive devotion through intermittent reinforcement. They have the brains of psychopaths in the bodies of fluffy snuggly angels.

Yes! And trying to walk behind me on the toilet seat! Why? For the love of God. Sooooo weird. ❤️

Mine sits and waits outside the bathroom door when any of us are in the bath or shower meowing loudly. When we come out, we have to sit on the top stair on the landing and she sits on our laps and licks the water drops of us. She is so weird! 🤣

JeremiaBoogle · Yesterday 21:19

I don't think it's good for your sanity trying to understand them.

Lulumush · Yesterday 21:24

My kids have a cat each. They are sisters (the cats not my kids). They are nearly 5 and still play like kittens. My neighbours made it clear the day we got them that they hate cats. They started putting anti cat protection on their trees (so the cats can't climb) and all along the top of their fence that encircles their garden so our cats won't go into their garden.

Our cats just climb up their fence and walk along the top of it. They sit and preen. And stick two fingers up at the neighbours (who I loathe anyway for other reasons) 😁😁😁

My cat sits in the door staring at me. I think he is wondering why I would choose to have a bath when he hates it so much

PfizerFan · Yesterday 21:45

He wants to play!

Toddlerteaplease · Yesterday 22:10

Penelope has taken to walking along the edge of the bath and poking her head around the shirt curtain, I almost had a heart attack the first time her little grey head appeared round the curtain. I’m sure she thinks I’ve completely lost the plot.
