Weird skin mark

I can’t think of a better title! This is a very small probably insignificant mark but it’s been on my mind for a few months. It’s not an insect bite as I have had it a long time. I think it probably originated from stupid late teen early 20’s sunbathing skin damage. It’s sometimes like a shiny white raised mark, sometimes it’s red and feels like it’s burning, very occasionally it has a scab on it. If feels like such a non issue to go to the gp about but at the back of my mind I’m worrying I’m perhaps ignoring the first signs of a skin cancer. I’m definitely not a health anxious person as I haven’t needed the gp since I had shingles 6 years ago but for some reason this is playing on my mind. Does anyone have any advice or anything similar please? Thank you. The photos were taken on different days.

See your GP. If it’s a changeable skin lesion you want to have it checked for cancer. Skin cancer is common and highly treatable if seen to in time so best to just have it looked at. Could just be a tiny patch of eczema, but it also might not be.

Thank you for commenting. I will request an appointment. I know it’s not wasting their time really but it does feel like it!

Whilst waiting for a gp appointment try asking a pharmacist, they might be able to reassure you.

Thank you! I will do. I have managed to get an appointment really quite easily for later in the week, which is great. Thanks for your reply.

Hello. Just thought I would update. I did almost cancel the appointment because I felt daft going to the GP for it but have actually been referred to a specialist on the 2 week wait so I guess definitely was worth going.

You did the right thing. Scabbing and shiny are suspicious.

I had a lumpy patch on my leg that was shiny and occasionally scabbed and it was a Basal cell carcinoma, I also had another dry eczema type flat patch and that was also one of them. I was put on 2 week pathway as GP wasn’t sure about the shiny scabby one.

thank you for replying. Do you mind me asking how they treated the basal cell carcinoma? I hope all is ok for you now!

The consultant looked at the lumpy one and said BCC I was taken off the urgent pathway and it was excised 3 months later. The other dry patch was biopsied at the same time The surgery took about 20-30 mins with local anaesthetic and it is fine now. I was prescribed Efudix cream for the dry patch after biopsy came back as BCC and that is also fine, thanks. Hopefully yours is ok too when it gets looked at
