To remember when you didn’t have to pay separately for toner?! 💁🏼‍♀️

It’s been a few years since I had highlights but I’m thinking of getting them put in again.

I was very surprised to see on the booking website that I needed to ‘add toner service below as this is an essential part of the colour’ - for £30!

What?! I never used to pay for toner, it was part and parcel of getting the colour. Apparently now it’s the norm to pay for it!

Do you also have to pay separately for the foil squares?! 😅

The bill isn't broken down at my hairdressers, I pay £120 for cut, colour (highlights and root colour with some pulled through) and blow dry...this includes toner. Probably one of the cheapest in the area still

My old hairdressers changed all their prices because people were eeking out their appointments for as long as possible (because they were so expensive)

They now have 1 price for chin length, one for shoulder, one for below shoulder (so if you fancy growing your hair you get penalised - it doesn't make a differece whether your hair is thick or thin)

They then have one colour price if it's been 6-8 weeks since your last colour, a higher price for 8-10 weeks, and if it's over 10 weeks, they charge you for a full 'start again' colour price. So if you happened to be away when you're usual treatment is, or you can't get an appointment with them that week, then tough!

They seem surprised that they are now always empty and offering same-day appointments, when historically all of their branches were booked months in advance.

And yes, they charge extra for toner, and also conditioner - even for their own in-house one, they'll charge you extra, let alone the £25 for olaplex!

I paid £79 for a cut and finish. The app will only let me book a cut and finish so I said to the hairdresser that I only wanted a rough dry, which she did, but charged me for the cut and finish anyway! Why should I have to call or call in, to be able to book a cut and rough dry?

And you can't cancel an appointment online, you have to call in. Even though you can make an appointment online.

And their latest wheeze is charging a 25% deposit for colour appointments. I bet if they cancel it on the day they won't give me 25% of the appointment cost. I will have to go somewhere else for my colour in future.

The odd thing is that half head highlights are only about £10 more than a cut these days!

Oh they charge alright. And it’s on an App.

Im just waiting for them to find a way to use AI for £25.

They already are: the Kerastase test where they do one small section of your scalp for free - but charge to do a full head. And then say you need an expensive serum for your scalp microbiome!

Surely I just wash it away when I wash my hair? How can there be a biome on my head?
