“First post nails it” / “This”

I’ve been around these parts for many a year under various guises and I’ve noticed recently how many people are making posts just for the sake of it, saying things like “first post nails it”, “this” or “omg hun I was going to say the same thing xxx”

I find it infuriating that these posters don’t contribute anything but are just desperate to be seen. Is there actually a reason for it?

I could probably ask the same thing about people who post to say “didn’t want to read and run but I don’t have any advice”, “nothing to add but I’m just marking my place” and an old favourite, “thanks for the new thread”.

AIBU to think that if you don’t have anything new/interesting to contribute, that it’s perfectly possible to just not make a post at all?!

(don’t get me started on the general shit that the AIBU board attracts…)

'First post nails it' is incredibly annoying. I agree.

I generally can’t be bothered to post if most posts are broadly in agreement.
This bit nothing to add but I’m just marking my place” and an old favourite, “thanks for the new thread really resonates. Whole series of threads ostensibly serious political discussions full of posters typing PMK and pictures of cats. Like you think a thread on MN is a special club or something. No one needs to post to mark their place. Just watch the thread and bookmark.
