DH cousin is visiting us tomorrow & it’s her first time visiting us. Making a light lunch with tea/coffee & cake for after. However she does tend to overstay (coming around 1130). What’s the best way to let her know indirectly when it’s time for her to leave.

How far is travelling? When do you feel she should leave?

Callmeback · 17/04/2026 20:55

Message in advance and say. Just to let you know I need to leave to go to x town at x time. Looking forward to seeing you.

thistimelastweek · 17/04/2026 21:00

Why do you want her to leave?

Why are these threads always about inhospitibaliy?

Why does no-one see a visit as anything but an inconvenience?

Poor woman!

XenoBitch · 17/04/2026 21:02

"Hey, it is lovely to see you, but I have an appointment at 2:30pm".

B1anche · 17/04/2026 21:04

If it's only her first visit, how do you know she tends to overstay?

ShakyBake · 17/04/2026 21:08

Watch tapping, yawning, suddenly announcing 'it was nice to see you' or 'i can't believe how late it is' etc.

Laiste · 17/04/2026 21:41

''Really looking forward to seeing on x. Just wanted to let you know that we have to go out at y that day, do hope you don't mind! Still gives us ages for a good catch up though so see you then''

I totally agree with this @thistimelastweek it's incredible how much this is prevalent on here.
