To be this bothered about such small things

I keep the broom in the lounge, sort of tucked into a corner. Wooden floors downstairs so sweep a lot.

Anyway, ds (age 5) is constantly and intentionally standing on it so it falls down with a big crash. It is tucked away so he seeks it out. No amount of nicely asking him to leave it alone works.

I mean I could put it somewhere else but why should I when it’s not exactly an unreasonable request?

Or am I being so unreasonable about this?

make sure he can’t open the door well he’s five years, not months!

But the issue with that is that there isn’t one. So either I have to put the broom somewhere that is a pain for me, or I have to deal with it constantly being trodden on and knocked over!

I know - it’s a stupid thing to get this annoyed about; I do realise that. I think it’s because my life has had a truck going through it since having kids and so a small thing like this is just driving me nuts!

I would just put it away. Pick your battles, this is not worth endless arguments. Save the big guns (sending to bed, taking away tv or toys) for more important stuff!

He’s 5. Put it somewhere else. Pick your battles. But don’t have it as ‘mummy’s things’ because then sweeping up looks like your job/hobby.

Get him a balance board. You say you don’t want to criminalise it and he can’t seem to help it. So if you can’t get him to stop by telling him to stop and you don’t want to move the broom to a less convenient place you need to provide him with something else to stand on.
