Cant find the thread from last week where a dog mauled its owner and everyone jumped on the speculation it had to have been an xl bully.... it was actually a Lurcher, normally a very docile breed.

Find it strange noone is up in arms now the breed has been identified.

Dog that fatally bit teenager Jamie-Lea Biscoe on the neck pictured

Shy was described as the 'softest' pet and was said to be the teenager's 'best friend' before the attack.

Yes, odd that they describe it as a lurcher cross. All lurchers are a cross.

Yes, true. Although they could mean a dog that has a lurcher as one of its parents, and another breed as the other parent, rather than a true lurcher, with one parent a greyhound and the other a terrier/collie etc, if you see what I mean.

I'm also waiting to see if more details emerge. Lurchers are my all time favourite type of dog, and as PP have said, usually one of the gentlest of dogs.

I admit I was quite shocked to hear the dog was a lurcher in this instance, which really does show how ubiquitous attacks from bull breed dogs have become that in the vanishing rare occasion another breed has caused a fatality everyone is gobsmacked.

Will be interesting to hear further facts as they emerge.

No doubt some numbskulls will try use this as a 'see!? Any dog can be dangerous!' which is true, but disingenuous with the subtext. Just because you can drown in an inch of water doesn't make leaping into a choppy sea away from the shore safer or sensible.
