AIBU to expect a council inspection appointment rather than a broad timeslot?

This is not acceptable as I can’t make an appointment!

Local authority want to inspect all council homes to plan works in future. The time frame they have given is ‘March-July any day/time mon-fri 8am-6pm’ They state they will try twice and if no response it is put down as refusing entry? That someone over 18 has to be present during the inspection.

They had put a card through twice last week when I was away. I called and was told I can’t make an appt they have scheduled rounds I asked when is the day they are doing rounds in my area I’ll book it off. They couldn’t say. I asked can my 17 year old ds let them in if he’s here and I’m not? They said no. They have put me down as non compliant !

AIBU why can’t they tell me a day !!

Put in a formal complaint and tell them if they mark you down as non compliant you will raise a GDPR complaint for holding inaccurate information on your file.
They must by law give you atleast 24 hours notice of the time and day they want to access your property for an inspection

That's grossly unfair OP. Madness and so disrespectful to people's busy lives.

I hadn’t realised they are meant to give 24 hours notice . They said they had a schedule but then wouldn’t tell me what day my road is on the schedule !

Most employers will want more than twenty four hours notice if their employee needs to take time off though. Its yet again councils and HAs assuming tenants are all at home all day every day.

When you send in the note using @Hoardasurass excellent advice, cc it to the relevant Housing Cabinet member. You can do this by looking at your Council website, search under Cabinet Members and their email address will be there. Council Officers get chased by Cabinet members and for some reason respond rather quickly...

that is absolutely insane! I'd think they were being U if they just said a specific day - at the very least it should be a morning/afternoon.

They sound like complete muppets. What harm would telling you their plans cause when you are proactively trying to help them out, even if they cba to arrange appointments themselves? It's as if they want to sabotage their own work.

Being cynical I'm wondering if there's an element of deliberation to this - i.e. if they can say people refused entry they can use that as a valid reason for not undertaking repairs.

I had a similar situation when I was studying for a second degree, in my 30s. I live alone so for the duration of the study, I didn't pay council tax. I suppliied paperwork from the college confirming the duration of the course.

About halfway through the first year, I got a letter from the council saying they had decided I was working not studying, because they had called round unannounced during the day (twice), and I wasn't there. Because I was at college.

Apparently all students should be sitting at home all day watching TV Hmm Eventually got them to drop it after emails sent from lecturers, class timetable supplied, etc.
