To think it’s unusual to know how much friends or colleagues have in savings?

I’ve noticed on here that quite a few people seem to know how much their friends or colleagues have in savings. That really surprised me, as I wouldn’t have a clue what most people I know have saved. It’s just not something we talk about.

AIBU to think that’s unusual?

I have absolutely no idea what my friends earn, how big their mortgage is, if they have savings etc. It’d not a subject we’ve ever discussed

I was brought up not to talk about money. I don't even know how much my siblings earn. Obviously I do with DH. I am teaching the kids how to manage money but have told them not to talk to anyone outside our immediate family about how much they have etc. Nothing good comes of it. People fall out and go funny over it.
