Resting heart rate of 42-48bpm

Currently in A&E after being sent here by the out of hours. My heart rate is between 42 and 48bpm. I feel fine but didn’t first thing and it was about 35 and I felt faint. ECG normal, bloods so far normal, BP normal. Does anybody have a similar heart rate to reassure me that I’m not about to drop dead in my sleep? I’m waiting on one more blood test (trop T) and to see the doctor again but the first doctor wasn’t too concerned. I’m desperate to get home to my children. My 17 year old has put the 11 year old to bed and they are fine but I want to get back asap.

59 this morning when I got up. I’ve taken my adhd medication this morning but not the propranolol. I didn’t take the adhd one yesterday because I got up too late and do wonder if the adhd one has counterbalanced the propranolol for the last few weeks. If my heart rate shoots up today that might answer things.
I really appreciate the replies here yesterday when I was worried. The GP at the out of hours was convinced I had heart block or long QT syndrome and might drop dead and needed a pacemaker so I was really worried.

This is the difference between drs and emergency drs a gp panics and scares the crap out of you then you get infront of an emergency dr and they shrug and are like what. Your gp will either lower your propranolol or if it's working might just accept the lower hr if it's not causing symptoms. Im on bisoprolol for tachycardia but only on a small dose as it made my hr drop so much I don't think it was ever unsafe they just lowered my dose to keep me happy/shut me up

I’ve got an appointment at 11.20am today. Heart rate has been up to 80 which is good considering the adhd medication.

The GP agrees with my thinking that the low pulse has been masked by my adhd meds which I didn’t take on Sunday due to waking up too late. The propranolol has been too effective and crashed my heart rate so she’s reduced me from 40mg to 10mg with instructions to play around with the dose and see how I fair best. It might be a case of just at night which is when the menopausal and stress induced tachycardia and palpitations hit. She said it was the perfect storm of this stupid virus, not eating as much on the adhd medication, not having slept well and dehydrated overnight combined with the propranolol being too high a dose and no adhd medication that day to counterbalance it. She was quite horrified the A&E dr didn’t tell me not to take the propranolol on Sunday night when I’d got “no reserves”. Good job I have half a brain and knew not to take it. I haven’t taken it since and my heart rate is between 60 and 80 now. I’ll pick up the new dose today and use it either just at night or when needed.
Thanks again for keeping me from
stressing so much about it.

I am fit and well and not overweight or anything. I had a 24 hr tape before Christmas which showed it varies between 52 and 90. I’m on propranolol for palpitations and anxiety which will now need to be stopped. My heart rate used to go up to 126 at night with random anxiety thanks to general stress and menopause.

I had beta blockers prescribed when I first had long covid as had awful head and neck pain and dizzy spacey feeling and was getting really anxious -they sent my resting rate down to about 46 from a usual 64 or so -and that was even at a very low dose - did make me feel kind of woozy and slightly feint, but did massively improve the head pain issue . I think they clearly have sent yours too low as well, you do have to reduce down off them I was told rather than cold turkey .

My resting heart rate sits between 38 and 42, and always causes concern when a HCP who doesn't know my history checks it, but it's because I'm very fit, so it's normal for me.

Is that the case for you?

I am on beta blockers for Afib. My HR is steady during the day (mostly!) between 50-80, higher when I'm active and sometimes goes a bit lower. At night it can go down to low 30s while sleeping. No one in cardiology is one bit concerned, and I'm staying on that dose of BBlockers also. As others have said, fit people can have quite low resting rates too.

Easy for me to say, but try not to worry too much!
