to huff and roll my eyes when I see a man pushing a pushchair one-handed?

Do they think their balls will spontaneously drop off if the other hand comes into contact with the handlebar?

Totally unreasonable - Before buying current psuhchair - I made sure I could push it with one hand - whats the big deal?

Hoonette · 19/06/2008 13:31

I push my pushchair one-handed sometimes. I have never had balls.

SoupKitchen · 19/06/2008 13:33

I often push buggy one handed, same as flashman it was a prerequsite for purchase. BTW i am a woman.

tortoise · 19/06/2008 13:38

I often push the stroller one handed if it has shopping on. Also tend to kick the back of it because i am tall. (Female btw!)

EffiePerine · 19/06/2008 13:38

Why? I would if I could as schlepping round with the pushchair gets v v dull after a while and it makes a change...

MadamAnt · 19/06/2008 13:41

Do you mean that the 'free' hand is usually holding the balls in place? I've never seen that. Thankfully.

bubblagirl · 19/06/2008 13:41

i am a one handed pusher at times

and have no problems with men pushing one handed always see them using two if at road as i would but dont see the problem

orangina · 19/06/2008 13:41

you need to let your mind wander free and think about something else....

MamaG · 19/06/2008 13:43

lol
gave you got the message?

waffletrees · 19/06/2008 13:43

I have no balls but am quite proud of the fact that I can push a buggy one handed. Hey, I have to get my kicks some how.

HensMum · 19/06/2008 13:45

This is one of those things that irks me too...though I'm not entirely sure why.
It is most annoying when they walk at the side of the pushchair, thus doubling the space they take up on the pavement.

MascaraOHara · 19/06/2008 13:45

I checked I could push dd's pushchair oen handed before I even bought it. (I'm bollock-less as well)

I bet you keep your hands at 10 to 2 when driving dontcha and feed the stearing wheel through very sensibly

PrettyCandles · 19/06/2008 13:47

Der? What's the big deal about one-hnded pusing? An essential feature iMO.

cheesesarnie · 19/06/2008 13:49

pushing one handed is so useful though-means you can juggle other things-i made sure our buggy could be pushed one handed.would it be different if it was a mum pushing a pushchair one handed?
my dh would hardly pushchair the pushchair at all-with no amount of hands!!!

FromGirders · 19/06/2008 13:55

How are you supposed to hold hands with your toddler (even if he is on reins) if you can't push your pushchair with one hand? Silly!

missblythe · 19/06/2008 13:59

Yes thanks, Mama, loud and clear

Am off now to let my mind wander free and think about something else.

Before I go though..

Yes, Cheesey, it would. When women do it, it's usually so they can get the house keys ready/hold hand of other child/carry shopping/chat on phone/eat ice-cream/read Grazia with the other hand. All valid.

When the men I see doing this are one-handed pushing, it looks more like 'I must stand as far from this emasculating contraption as possible, lest another man mistakes me for a bit of a sissy'.

IMHO, of course!

onebatmother · 19/06/2008 14:33

It's about height. Has anyone said that yet? Tall men have to stand as far away from the buggy as poss so as not to kick it, and that's more easily done with one hand.

I have no snese of humour today. I am going to practice speaking in a monotone.

missblythe · 19/06/2008 14:47

Ahhh...interesting, onebat.

Will cease my huffing.

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 19/06/2008 14:48

I can;t say that this is something that I notice.

cmotdibbler · 19/06/2008 14:51

But thats why men should participate in pushchair buying so that they don't kick it. DH and I are both tall (he's 6'3") and we chose a pushchair with a handle height such that we can both push it and not kick.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 19/06/2008 15:00

Sometimes DD does not want to be in the pushchair so I have the delight of carrying her and pushing the pushchair whilst trying not to injury people!
