XL Bully register should be public

Currently house hunting with two young children.

I am so worried we end up buying somewhere in the vicinity of one of these dogs.

AIBU to think the register should be public - not actual addresses but streets so people
know to be vigilant?

Your next door neighbour could get one of those dogs the day after you move in.

Also the register would be dependent upon owners registering their dogs and not all would. I can’t imagine how it would be monitored

They should all be culled. Then we would all be safer.

Could they? I didn’t think anyone could legally get an XL bully they didn’t have before?

Sorry but you are overthinking this a register would be of no benefit at all. You could move house and weeks later an owner of an XL could move in your area. Apart from this it’s probably the unregistered ones that may be a problem.

This is what I was thinking, no one can legally get one now.

I know people don’t abide by the law but it would give some reassurance.

Our next door neighbour has one. They moved in with the dog plus 2 other smaller dogs. Before the restrictions came in, they used to let it just run up to us (including my then toddler) without a muzzle if we were out the front of the house. Back then I didn't know what it was or how dangerous the breed could be. It seemed very friendly and soppy. Since the restrictions, it is always muzzled and on a lead outside. They rarely have visitors now. They are not your average XL bully owners and seem very responsible since the restrictions but it makes my blood run cold to think what could happen if it got out the front door. I know not every bully is going to attack someone but I would support a total ban.

Agree

I was thinking you were suggesting it so that we could decide if it was a place we would be happy for our children to go to for a playdate or similar but not wanting to move near one is not going to make any difference, as people say that could change within a day.

That’s a good point about play dates…also routes DC can walk to school, etc.

Are they still being bred?
