To not want to return to normal life next week

Although my Dd can be a handful and i’m basically constantly tired, I’ve really enjoyed being off on Easter holidays with her the last couple of weeks. It’s made me realise how little I actually see her now she’s started school and Ive returned to work. We used to spend each day together before
Ive loved no alarm or stressy morning rush, just cuddled in bed with the dog too, little trips out, drawing together and watching films. Life during the week is such a rush, weekends she sees friends

Just feels a bit sad

Totally understand and I am very fortunate that just before the holidays I quit my job because I was missing my family far too much. I’m dreading them going back to school but I am excited at doing school runs, cooking dinners for us all to eat together, and also…time for me! They are young only once and I plan to enjoy this time while I’m still young enough and fit enough myself.

How lovely 🥰 is it a permanent thing, how old are they?

I feel exactly the same, every moment with dd feels precious. It is making me consider my future quite carefully.

It really is. How old is she?

Mine is 7, the years are flying by!

MerryGuide · 11/04/2026 20:17

Ack I feel you, mine is a right handful and SAHM life has never appealed but I've loved not rushing, packing bags, reading school emails. Having more time to play. Quite looking forward to the first summer holidays now, even though it'll be a right juggle

I'm dreading Monday morning. I love the break from school bags, uniforms, PE kits, home work, morning school run traffic.

My eldest is also home from uni and I love them all here together.
Roll on the next half term!

I always loved the school holidays and was sad when they went back to school. 💐

Pourwater · 11/04/2026 21:30

Totally with you, OP. Mine are almost 5, 3 and 1. My maternity leave is almost finished and I daydream about winning the lottery and quitting my job. It’s been a lovely Easter and a pretty fab year being able to do all the school runs and be around as much as possible.

I have a touch of the back to school blues too.
I work term time only and although I love my job, I don't love juggling work with pick ups and drop offs, various afterschool activities, homework, packed lunches, washing school uniforms and sports kit, and trying to keep on top of comms, events and admin from the DC's two different schools. Not looking forward to my alarm going off at 6am tomorrow but I keep reminding myself it's not long til the summer holidays!
