I can’t believe it’s still going on. Drugged horses, deaths, whips, bloody dangerous jumps. Then sent to the abattoir when they’re not performing anymore

Is there no way rules could be brought in so the stables treat racing horses better? And breeders.

BL0B · 11/04/2026 22:09

Just for the record as it’s been mentioned a few times - no, I haven’t eaten meat in 23 years. Yes, I also think fishing is disgusting and pointless cruelty

So why are you only bothered about the GN?

Notashamed13 · 11/04/2026 22:13

As for fishing.....next time I come across a vile diesel spill from our wonderful boating community, I shan't mention it and let it pollute as many pounds as it likes.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 11/04/2026 22:07

@MuskIsACnt Rubbish. Have you ever been to a racing stable? After they are bought for racing they are not a traded commodity after that very often. Clearly breeders breed to sell but racing allows the horse to develop its talents. Just look at the time, effort, care and love that goes into looking after them. Go to an open day and have a look.

I worked on a race yard, albeit briefly. Anyone who thinks the horses are treated like kings understands nothing of good horsemanship.

Race horses are largely deprived of natural behaviours (turnout, socialising etc.), worked too hard too young, stressed, and fed too high energy feeds. This all leads to well documented mental and physical damage seen in racehorses and ex racehorses.

I worked as a Groom for 10 years Zov my dear, you get to know these things

Of course you do ShakyBake my dear. Working as a groom for horses means you can read their minds.

Notashamed13 · 11/04/2026 22:17

https://www.horsedeathwatch.com/ have a look..... you will soon forget about the GN.

162000 cows were slaughtered in the UK in February this year for the meat industry.
so I can’t get too worried about a few horses tbh.

They're just fish though. They don't have complex brains or anything. They would get eaten by another animal by being swallowed whole or whatever...

Isn’t it quite obvious that I’m not only bothered by the GN?

Are you a vegetarian?

They are bred to race. Just as cows are bred to be milked and beefed and pigs are bred to be bacon.

circle of life!!

there are bigger problems with the current human race than a bit of horse racing 🙄

No. It's not. The very title of your post confirms that. Get some bloody education..

The very core of horse racing is just all shitty though...a human being riding on it's back forcing it to run fast and jump high... It's hardly a natural pattern you'd see in the wild.

I don’t take part in any of those things. There are choices you know. There are lots of important things and you can make a choice about all of them if you wish

Well then you are missing out of some of the simplest pleasures in life.

milk, beef, bacon - delicious

your time on this earth is infinite (100yrs if you’re lucky) and long before you and long after you, cows will be milked and beefed, pigs will be bacon’d and people will enjoy (and make fortunes) off horse racing

Notashamed13 · 11/04/2026 22:30

Funny thing is, I'm in agreement with you, but have common sense and awareness because I've done my research. The GN is absolutely nothing to worry about compared to the rest of the racing industry. It will never be banned. There are prime time adverts on my local TV showing what a fun family day out the races can be. I still stand by the fact the horses have a great life, and its just something I have to accept.

A “great life”? Ok. Well, I am taking you on a run tomorrow. You might love it, but there is a strong possibility you will break your leg or back and die as a result. Do you fancy it? Honestly?

DeathMetalMum · 11/04/2026 22:34

I don't see the same outcry over show-jumping. Horses are also injured/killed after accidents during that sport too.

But you will never stop racing. It’ll just go underground eventually in the extreme cases. Bit like greyhound racing. At least a few of those stadiums have closed now.

Hey if I will love it then I'm happy. Hopefully you aren't a dog owner.
